The Wells Fargo bank that I started 2 weeks ago has been very nice in saving coins for me. Will wait before I see if they will order coins in for me. |

Most common date still not found is 1917D with a mintage of 55 million. Then it jumps to 1930D with a mintage of 40 million. Quick progress. |

I found a 1910, 1916 and a 1923 in the same roll last night. The 1910 is readable, but the coin is not in very good shape. |

I think the contest should be who fills the book first on their own. Excluding the major dates of course
Also, can ryedale sorters get in on this tracking post? |

1939 last night..
....Question on the semi key date...shouldn't the 1931 semikey be a S mint instead of the philly mint? even the D mint has lower production numbers than the plain cent. I would really like to stay on as a semikey finder but that means I have to go find that penny again and put it in a flip...at least..;-) |

I found a 1912-D last night; not an IH but still the oldest coin I've ever found in circulation! It was a decent G-4 problem-free coin. Beat the heck out of the corroded example in my whitman folder. Still waiting for the wild indian to show up on my doorstep... |

Yes, the 1931D and 1931S are better dates than a 1931 plain. But no one has found one and reported it here yet. That's why they're not listed in the key/semi-key section. For the time being, I am defining key/semi-key as coins with mintages below 20 million, plus the 1909VDB which has an abnormally high value for its mintage. This is that list:
1909VDB 1945v 1909SVDB 1909S 1910S snappy 1911D 1911S 1912D 1912S 1913D 1913S 1914D snappy 1914S 1915S 1921S 1922D coinwolf 1923S cwgii 1924D 1924S 1926S 1927S thogey 1928S cwgii 1931P fasteddy, kirkland 1931D 1931S 1932P 1932D 1933P 1933D 1938S beauanderos 1939D
Your 1931 plain has a mintage of 19,396,000, so it qualifies. The problem is that there is no EASY way to define the terms. Using the coins' "price" or "value" makes it necessary to determine a grade on EVERY coin found, then ALSO to decide which source to trust for that value. And values CHANGE over time. There are just too many variables there. So I used something definable and unchanging: mintage figures. Actually, all the coins with numismedia.com values over $3 have mintages under 13 million, except for the 1909VDB with a mintage of 28 million and a G4 value of $9. That would still qualify as a semi-key, don't you think? So for now, the cutoff is at 20 million. If we adjust it, we may go to 13 or 15 million. But I was going to wait until we got at least a few more before we cut it back. |
