I believe they call 'em loonies because of the birdy on the coin... |

Hi Country! Actually this one has a polar bear on it. I have heard the term loonie before for the dollar coin, but I'm almost certain I've heard a Canadian use the term toonie for some kind of currency, maybe it was their $2 paper bill? |

OOPS...The Loonie is the $1 coin - you're right about that. And, you're right about the Toonie for the $2 coin.

$500 NF String box of halves....
SILVER STREAK CONTINUES!!!!!!!!!
2 40% coins
'68D '69D
A couple of interesting side notes about this box...first thing I saw when I opened it was an unused 37 cents first class American flag stamp from 2004...hmmm...also, the box had quite a few AU coins, most from '95 to '99, but a few early '70s including a '74 and a '71 that I actually considered keeping... |

Got one more big halves order coming in Friday, hope I can boost my Feb number!
Edit: Got them just now, they are the good bags. Will crack them open this evening but it looks like Feb may end on a good note! |

Seems just a few days too early to start the March thread. Oh well, I won't post my silver finds here during the weekend, I'll do it in the March thread. I said I would be getting more halves yesterday, but the banks I went to didn't have any! I tried more than 5 banks on the way home, but none had a single half dollar. Guess I need to start getting serious about placing orders. Nothing today either. |

A 1975-S would be a great rarity if you really found this half dollar. Halves were not minted in 1975. |

Got this box from the same bank where I got the box yesterday that had the 2004 stamp in it. This box had another unusual find as well. One of the rolls had a 2007 zinc penny in it... . |

kirkland -
Why don't you just order a $500.00 box or two? If you don't have the funds to purchase the entire box, I'm sure with a promise from you to eventually purchase the entire box they would let you pick up 2 or 5 or 10 rolls at a time until it is all gone. I just hate to see you wasting potential gas money by driving around looking for onesies or twosies of teller tray halves that even if found are likely to be picked over for the Ag by the teller staff. I rarely if ever deal with the teller tray halves...the only time I do is if I'm already in the bank for other business...no extra driving around for me with the price of gasoline and wear and tear on the vehicle!!!!
Take care,
Jeff |

Jeff (cecropia moth)-
I mainly go to those banks for pennies, not halves, so the gas money isn't all a waste. Halves are only a side thing for me, as I am more focused on pennies at the moment. But you're right, I really ought to start ordering boxes, I do have the funds. I'll place an order sometime soon, and I'll let you know when it gets in!
