Hey, guys. I have a quick question here. . . Do you separate the 1968-1974 copper pennies with "S" mint mark from the other ones? I put mine with the rest of the bunch and was wondering what others think. Whatever you think, please post it here! Thanks!

Yeah, I do. But I'm a small-time hand sorter. The 1968-S had the lowest mintage of any circulation strike memorial until the 2009 type fours outdid it. Not that it is rare, but comparatively speaking, it comes around a little less often. And the same is true for all the S-mint memorials. They were seven of the lowest-minted memorials.
There was a thread on this recently. I can't find it yet, but if you look around, you will find a lot of opinions on it... and good info. |

There are twenty circulation strike memorials with mintages under 1 billion:
129,600,000 - type 4 through Nov 198,000,000 - type 4 D through Nov 258,270,001 - 1968S 284,800,000 - 2009 type 1 316,000,000 - 2009 type 3 317,177,295 - 1973S 336,000,000 - 2009D type 3 350,000,000 - 2009D type 1 363,600,000 - 2009D type 2 376,000,000 - 2009 type 2 376,939,108 - 1972S 409,426,660 - 1974S 525,133,459 - 1971S 544,375,000 - 1969S 586,405,000 - 1960 606,045,000 - 1962 609,715,000 - 1959 690,560,004 - 1970S 753,345,000 - 1961 754,110,000 - 1963
So basically 1959-63 plain, 1968-74 SanFran, and all 8 types of 2009. And yes, I save all of those. Not saying anything about sell-ability, just saying I save 'em. |

Is there a market for selling organized batches of "S" mint pennies?
Ie like making rolls of circulated 1970 "S" pennies. |

| Keep them all separate, they demand a little premium, especially BU ones. Also complete date rolls of S will bring a pretty heavy premium in feeBay. You can also put together P,D,S sets and sell them. If you don't have the time you could always sell them bulk on here they would probably do fairly well. |

| I'm hoping one day I can go through all the 1970 S pennies to separate the small and large date. What are the chances of finding a 1970 S small date? |

| Do you differentiate between small and large date? |

Hi Kirkland,
I too keep the 'S' memorials seperated. I find that the 68s and the 72s are the most difficult to find, with the 69s being the most common for me so far.

Small dates, if you actually find one should go in a 2 x 2's, don't keep them with large dates.
I think more indianheads are found in circulation then small date 70s's.
