Yes, they made pennies in 1909. It was the first year of the Lincoln Wheats.

President Theodore Roosevelt commissioned Victor David Brenner to design a new cent (to replace the IH cent ) that would feature an image of Abraham Lincoln. The new design was released in 1909 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.

The V.D.B. is Victor David Brenner's initials.

Wow, that 1909 I mentioned earlier it turns out I was looking in the wrong spot. It actually is a VDB!!

Congratulations Shattered !!!

I thought mine was a non-VDB at first too. You can miss the VDB if you look head on. As I found out, you need to look at a slight angle to see the initials.

Nice finds guys. Really nice to find one in Canada. Keep up the searches!

Take two V.D.B.'s, tape them face to face, put them under your pillow, wish REALLY hard, and you might get an "S" to show up on one. Or you might not.... No guarantees, hehe.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

You can put a S on them with a Sharpie. Not recommended and it probably won't fool anyone either.

DO NOT MARK ON THE 1909 PENNY. You want to keep it intact so you can eventually sell it for a higher price.

Pour some Tilex into a jar and drop your 1909 penny in it for a few days to make it shiny.

If that doesn't work, use a Vise Grip to hold in against a fine wire wheel.

I've done that to my 1931S and '72 DDO. Makes 'em look purty.

DO NOT CLEAN OR POLISH THE COIN EITHER. Any of these things will decrease the value of your penny.
I think I can already tell this is some type of joke going on here to try my literal and serious ways.

You can make nice earrings out of Buff nicks for wives, girlfriends, so on.

I took one of those little saws that jewelers use and trimmed around the outline of a '37 3-legger and attached it to an earring hook. I gave it to my ex-girlfriend one Christmas. She became my ex after I heard she gave away the necklace I made for her out of a silver-plated flying eagle cent. No class.

Copper is a natural antiseptic. Rub it with your fingers a few times to kill them nasty germs on your fingers. Might also make it shinier.

The best ones to use for this are the 1856 flying eagles. They are pretty much worthless anyways.

Actually, I think Flying Eagles are worth at least $30 a piece, if you look at a coin magazine.

See? That explains why my ex is my ex.

She wouldn't know value if it ran her down and backed over her twice.
