How do y'all count your pennies? I have a Nadex sorter/counter (with the vibratory feeder). It has markings for values alongside each denomination's column. They have all proven accurate, so far, except for the penny column. Wheat pennies are always dead on - exactly 50 pennies at the 50 cent mark. Post-wheat Cu pennies are just about on, but usually just a hair under the 50-cent mark with 50 coins. But, with the zincolns I have to really pay attention. When the coins are right at the 50 cent mark, I usually have 52 coins. Sometimes 51, sometimes 53. So, I am having to check periodically to be sure the count is on.

Obviously, the mints standards have slipped. Pennies are NOT a uniform thickness, even within the same coin, a very disappointing fact for US coins.

There has to be a better way. Does anyone use a machine that physically counts each coin? If so, any recommendations on acquiring one? Or, if you use a counter that is based on thickness, how do you ensure accuracy of the count?

Thx.

I counted some by hand then I made my sister count them by hand and we were over 100 pennies different so I think I need to invest in some kind of coin counter.

I use a digital scale 7750 grams per 25 $ box of copper cents. Probably a little over on the count but I am good with that.

I don't use the counters on the 4 Ryedales.

I do use a Digi 688 coin scale (accurate to .02 pounds) to verify exact box weight of zinc or copper boxes before returning to bank or selling.

HCBTT hoards everything. He also needs at least one ton of equipment.

I am surprised that he has the discipline to return the zincs

Actually I think that is only a little over half a ton of equipment. Obviously I need to hoard more equipment!

You are probably right about the discipline thing. Sometimes I get a little behind on returning the zincs. When I run out of money I just rip off 4 bags on the counters in the morning so I will have lunch money.

I don't think he means he'll use all of that, NDFARMER. I can't imagine paying that much for lunch.

lol.. the drivebys are at the banks rather than fast food restaurants. I was glad I had a 10 gallon bucket in the trunk today to put all the CWR I got into.
