You can sell them here or try ebay I don't think the scrapyard would buy them.

Yeah thats me, haven't been on in forever (only less than 20 posts for a reason).

~I didn't think a scrapyard would buy copper pennies but needed examples, I almost posted "Should I sell my old pennies to the little kid next door and tell him there from when the dinosaurs roadmed the earth...? And ask him for a stupid small coin like a dime..." thats a little off topic tho and might not make sense to others.

I wonder too about how long it is going to take to develop a market for pennies. I think a lot of it depends on how long the melt ban lasts. Since I started sorting the other week, I have maybe 20 lbs of coppers, but then I ask myself, "who the heck would want to buy these?" I understand its more of a long term thing, but what if I move out of state in the next year or two?? Doh! I really don't want to have to move pound after pound of copper. I suppose I could always sell them really cheap to yous guys!

I sell copper pennies all the time. People buy them for the same reasons they buy silver coins for 13X face value. They know the copper value makes them worth more than 1 cent.

You could just not sort, wait 10 years when copper prices make them 5X face and not be able to find any.

I'm gonna post this again becasue the one from this morning I sent seems to stuck in digital neverland...

I think a cu penny is a great investment. You just have to have alot of them to amount to anything. Even if the market price of copper drops, it's still worth a penny. Can we say the same for our real estate or 401K's???

I did not enjoy looking at my 401K about a year ago. It had lost about 30 percent of its value. I have seen co-workers delay retirement due to their 401K's losing so much.

The pennies I have sorted will never show me a negative return.
