I have been stuggling with justifying the purchase of a Ryedale.
I see only a new one is available. Was the old one better?
Should I look for used?
If I sell, will the value keep?
I collect coins and hoard. I am extremely compulsive about sorting but the cost for the machine is high and would take quite a bit to break even.
I am in for the long haul though and am excited in sorting just coppers by hand for wheaties and sacking away a ton of copper for later.
I know that once I get started, more than one is a possibilty
Has the purchase justified the cost for board Ryedale owners?
Advice please. All/any comments appreciated. I sent Andy a message and will be putting up my credit card soon unless convinced that it's a mistake.
Thanks in advance!

Well I have 3 Ryedales. They do have good resale value. With 3 I can sort $540 + per hour. That is $9 per minute. There is no way a hand sorter can do that.
To justify the purchase means that you have great source banks and ever greater dump banks. When you start dumping in the $1000 a week range, you better have a good plan.
Buying with a credit card to me does not make sense unless you are gonna pay it off when the bill comes. If you have to buy the Ryedale with credit, where is the cash gonna come from to buy pennies? |

Hi Zero,
If you're serious or semi serious about nickel and penny sorting this machine will help you do it. You say you're in for the long haul. You will have no trouble getting your ton of copper with a Ryedale to help you. roughly speaking you'll need to sort through around $10-13k in pennies to get a copper ton (for my area at least). Do you really want to do this manually?
Since i bought by ryedale last year i sold all the coppers i sorted and more than paid for the machine. Now prices are up and you'd probably have less trouble this year finding copper buyers to help ease the costs of the investment.
If you work to maintain the machine even through heavy use I believe it will retain it's value. The machine seems to also have a lot of parts so spot fixing is also possible (this coming from reviews of other Ryedale users).
I have one of the 'new' ones and i'm happy with it, albeit can be a little noisy.
Good luck in your choice and remember this really becomes a small down payment towards an greater investment in your future. |

| Buy it!!! You won't regret it. If in 6 months to a year from now you decide it is not working out for you or you are not using it enough to justify keeping it around you will be able to resell it for close to what you have into it. As a matter of fact I am looking for a used one right now. |

zerocd The older version is in more of a metal box were as the newer version is open. The sorting ability of both is the same. If you look on the site you will see that used machines have kept their value fairly well.
Just about everyone that has one will tell you that they wish they had purchased it sooner. For most folks the machine is so fast that they long run our of pennies to sort before they get too tired. Remember, you have to not only have a plan on getting pennies, and if possible loose in bags. You also need a plan on dumping the zincs without it causing trouble.
In my opinion, if you are serious about this and really have the long term view i.e. five or more years and can afford to sort and hold copper pennies without needing the money, then the machine is for you. If you think you are going to need the money in a few years then just keep hand sorting.

| I do not yet have a Ryedale, but I think you should go for it. It is a great machine and will help you extract the copper pennies much easier. |

My only regret on my Ryedale purchase was that I did not purchase it sooner. I now have 4 of them. They are awesome machines! Warning.. this will definately cut into your silver searching time.. penny sorting is even more addicting once you are machine equipped. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Welcome to the dark side. Hope you have a good zinc disposal plan in place.
If you just want to sort a few pennies.. use a pencil and a popsicle stick. If you want to get serious about sorting.. get a Ryedale, dude! |

| I have liked mine since day one. I bought it August 09 and had zero problems with it. Like the others said, it processes a lot of coins, so you need a good source for coins and a dump site. Keep up with the dumping, you can accumulate a pile of zinc real quick. The key to satisfaction and good operation is keeping it clean and lubricated, which takes about 5 minutes. Good luck! |

| I usually set it up and use the Dri-slide let it sit for while and comeback reassemble and go to work. Like Hoard said this will make a serious dent in you silver coin hunting. If you're searching for coppers to sell perhaps not so much, but if you save all the copper you find. it'll eat your funds just about as quickly as you can order or find the pennies to search through. |

Great info!
I pay off credit cards every month if used. No worry there. Must be ordered by phone as it says on the site.
Funds, lol, yeah, I can see my half money evaporating. We'll see how it works out.
Andy has not called yet.I'm in!

| I would be all over one if I had a license. I've done business with all of the banks in town (and a few have asked me not to come back) and that's just from hand-sorting. But, there's a big city right next door...I can only imagine all the possible dump banks over there. My goal this summer is to get my license and pick up a Ryedale as soon as possible. |

| I agree the real question is disposal. I have the ryedale ace which allows me to sort and dispose of just about the right amount to keep all the banks happy. Getting pennies easy getting rid of hard. |

You will not regret orfering it. I love mine. Still chugging along after a couple million coins or so....
Andy is a stand-up guy. He'll treat you well. Welcome to the Ryedale club!

Be sure to ask Andy to email the manual for the Rydale you bought.
I really like mine. I'm roving the banks later today to get $250 and then sort out the $50 or so in copper, in just a couple hours. |
