I place any 1959 pennies that I find separate from the other coppers and the wheat pennies. Do you think this is unnecessary or is it a wise thing to do?

I put mine with the rest of the copper. That way when I sell I can call them unsorted.

I only keep the shinny MS/BU 1959's seperate, all others go in with the general copper

Sometimes, like when 1959 pennies are terribly beat up or corroded, I'll place them with the regular coppers.

Newbie question here. Why are they kept separate? I only have 4 piles: Copper, Zinc, Wheats/Foreign and 82s. I don't look for errors key-dates or anything. What is special about 59?

They all go with the copper. Not sure why you would keep them seperate. Even one that is MS-60 is still only worth 4 cents...IF you can find someone to buy it at that.

Mine go in with the copper unless they are bright AU/BU coins. I separate all bright AU/BU Lincoln Memorial coppers though, so treatment of 1959's isn't any different for me.

Well, it is the first year of the Lincoln Memorial pennies, and from the '50's.

The question you should ask yourself is, do you think a 1959 will be a semi-key date for future collectors?

It will not be a key date, mikep2020, but they may bring up just a little bit more money than other coppers.

I keep the 1959-1981 P's & D's together, but I do keep the 1968-1974 S cents in a separate container.
