Hello all,
This is my first post... When I went to the CIBC to get some pennies, the teller gave me about 25$ worth of pennies (all rolled) that were all sorted 1965 (they looked like mint) and 100% COPPERS! The cover of the roll read "50c Coppers - The CAN. IMP. BK OF COMMERCE - 25 KING ST. W. TORONTO, ON." I just find it strange that even the CIBC is starting to sort.
I guess my question is, has anyone ever heard of these 'golden rolls'? I guess the CIBC is actively hoarding their own coppers and sorting them by date i.e helping the RCM with the ARP (allow recovery program).
I'm going to be calling the CIBC head office with the hopes of getting clarification but doubt very much that I will get a satisfactory answer i.e do consumers have a right/access to request the pure copper rolls? Do they have to give me a logical explanation for why they would not want to issue the coins as a courtesy/service.
Please comment!

If the wrappers are old, they could be just old bank rolls. I doubt the bank would go thru all the trouble to sort by or condition for coins being sent for destruction/ removal. If they are new wrappers, it could have just been someone who dumped their collection and they all got rolled together at some point.
Either way nice finds. If they are old bank rolls they prob. have some kind of prem against them. Too bad it wasnt 1964 (old head) or 1966 (Rock dove) |

| No the bank is not sorting coins and I only wish I could order solid copper pennies. You got someones old collection - those are OLD bank rolls. Go back and buy more from that branch ASAP you might get more. Also buy some nickels, dimes and quarters to check (what other treasures were deposited?) Head Office is not interested. |

You were lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. Congrats on that! Get back there ASAP, buy as much rolled coin as you can and hope for the best!
PS - If you run into a streak of luck (especially like that) don't forget to push it to the max, go crazy and plonk a dollar down on the Lotto. |
