How much of an affect does the increase in copper price play on the value of common date wheat pennies?

| hard to say. i've been on this for almost 2 yrs. today, if you can get wheats at 4 cents its probably a good deal. getting hard to find at that price. a year or 2 ago you could probably get all you wanted at 3 cents and could find them for 2.5 cents. |
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X

| btw, i think the real impetus to price increases will be the discontinuation of the penny. once the stop making pennies, and you can no longer get them from banks, wheats will probably be a dime a piece or more without any increase in copper prices. |

| I asked at my local coin store and they never have any common date wheats to sell. As soon as they get them, they sell them (I guess some guy has a standing order). |

| I think they'll always stay above melt. Just like, if silver is 13x face, you should always be able to get at least 14x for Walker halves... |

| copper isn't the main driver for wheat price but it's just getting harder to find them and people will alway want something they think is hard to get. |

getting hard to find those. my regular dealer wants 300 now but he rarely gets them anymore. of course he's still buying at only 3 cents, lol |

| I think wheats will maintain their premium until the melt ban is lifted. Then tons of Cu memorials will get pulled and melted down and over time will lead to a point where there are more common date wheats than common memorials available for collecting. |

I think there are members here who may have significant hoards of wheats.. but they aren't going to sell them for just over melt. Put out a strong offer and you will probably be offered more than you can handle. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

| Yep, I have a hoard and have finally after many years starting to go through them and sell them. I just sold a couple thousand common 40-50 for 3 cents each. I am know going to sell many S mints for 5 cents each and I am only keeping ones that are vf or above. The money I get is going toward silver and here is why. I started collecting wheats 20+ years ago and buying them at 2-3 cents depending on the years. Here twenty years later and they are only worth a couple cents more not good. Wheats are a bad investment unless you can flip them and hope you find a winner. My best was a 1931s but I also have search a couple hundred thousand coins. Like most here I think the copper value will surpass the wheat value just like in most common silver coins. |

| I don't know, I thought wheats were 3-5 cents each back 3 years ago or before it was that copper went up to $4 a pound. Didn't seem like the copper price pushed them up as much as you would have thought it would. |

| I love wheats though and should go ahead and buy some to set aside. Finding them through sorting is just too slow! :( |
