I believe that I know the answer, but want to ask anyway:
I was on the US Mint website and it says that the 2009 pennies in the mint sets are 95% CU.
They didn't make all of the 2009 pennies in CU did they?
Has anyone found a 2009 CU in circulation yet?

Not a chance
Has anyone found a 2009 CU in circulation yet? Not I, but I think it might happen. |

According to their website:
You must be logged in to see this link.
*Lincoln one-cent coins contain an alloy consisting of 95% copper, 3% zinc and 2% tin that matches the alloy used in the original 1909 version.
I think the business strike 2009 penny is your standard 95% zinc, but the proof version is indeed 95% copper.
If any of these proof pennies find their way into circulation, I sure a Ryedale will quickly put them in the copper pile. |

I am in a lot of special clubs.. but I figured that one was a bit too tough for me.. so I bought them directly from the mint. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

| I am sure you will recognize them on sight due to that satin finish. Anyone who's bought "uncirc" coins from the mint in the past few years knows how unique they look. I didn't end up buying the mint sets, but the proof set cents are also copper. |

| I have actually been finding '09's in my pocket change lately. only within the last month or two have I received them. Up until then, I had never seen them in circulation anywhere. I throw them into a box and save them just because. |

but copper ones? no.
I would love to find one in my change, or in an unopened roll! That would be fine with me. |

| No, no copper as of yet. But I have been waiting to see how long it would take before I found an '09 in circulation. |

Tons of '09's around here. I saved them for a while, but have since stopped.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. | well anyone with a ryedale may 'find' one, but never get to noticing it since it's with all the other coppers in their hoard. I for one will opt out of looking through my buckets for a date i may or may not have found. If they can only be purchased from the mint, i'd assume it'll be a while before wild '09 Cu cents are running around the place. |

I'm finally beginning to get a few more of the regular circulation 2009 pennies. It took long enough though and I'll keep saving them for the one of the kids' anniversary coin jars.
Doubt that I'll ever find a copper one from the special sets and I probably wouldn't think to even weigh it so since I hand sort I'd probably never realize either that I might have one.
Of the 2009 pennies that are finally beginning to show up down here, the vast majority of them are the LP 2. Way more than the other three designs.
Enjoy your searches, everyone. |

| I believe that we might have only a handful find the CU ones in circulation since a lot of people that bought the sets just for the double dies might have a few from a set that is just sitting around and might make it into their spending change. Since they had to open the set to get that DD out and have it graded, doubt they sent in the whole set for only one coin to be graded. When and if someone finds one or claims to have found one would be under suspicion to whether or not they actually pulled it from a set of their own and just claimed to find it. I know I would like to find one but it will be very difficult. |
