Got some bad news Saturday. Stopped by my dump bank to pick up my weekly order of 24 boxes and was told they now want to limit me to one pickup and one drop off per month. Guess they didn't want to be my bank of choice for most of my action. Now I will have to work hard just like everybody else on this board to find more sources of pennies and places to dump zinc.
Finally went through some of the wheat cents tonight that I have been throwing aside in a bag. Found an 11-S, 12-S, and 2 15-S pennies. Low grade of course, but still great for circulation finds.

"Stopped by my dump bank to pick up my weekly order of 24 boxes and was told they now want to limit me to one pickup and one drop off per month."
For sure if I was doing the Ryedale sorting thing, I would be calling all the coin distributers in my area to try and work out an economical deal with them to get and return $50 dollar bags. If you could get and return a $50 bag say for $2.50 or 5%, it might be worth the cost for the "unlimited" volume and convenience that you would be gaining.
Do you think a coin distibuter would think 50 bags a week at $125 "profit" a week would be worth their time? Because I really have no idea what size contracts those guys are use to dealing with. Maybe their contracts are huge multi bank/store contracts and they can afford to blow off smaller deals... |

I think if you are flexible and are willing to take your delivery on one of their slow days you could probably work out a deal that would work well for everyone. They probably like to fill in the bigger contracts with smaller deals at higher rates to maximize the return on their trucks and personnel. Guess I better start getting the garage ready to receive those large pallets. If I go to having them delivered I think I would like to get a couple of those hundred bag pallets like the ones on the "COIN PORN SITE" on each delivery. Maybe if your order is large enough they can give you a good price. I figure the cost is probably going to be related to the number of deliveries they make to you, so if you can get what you need in one or 2 shipments per month it might work.
If your percentages are low.. just sort more.

Pretty good day on drive-bys today:
Washington Mutual - Livermore Stopped by just to pick up some "play money" but I took an empty bag with me just in case. They had so many pennies and nickels I had to go out to the car and get another bag. Don't you just hate when that happens? 83 CWR Nickels 177 CWR pennies 21 CWR dimes 15 small dollar coins
Bank of the West - Livermore 8 CWR nickels 26 CWR pennies 2 Rolls shiny new WY quarters
Washington Mutual - Richmond 8 half dollars - No silver 1 roll shiny new WY quarters 3 small head hundreds
I figured the batch of pennies from the second bank might be pretty good when I saw the date 1974-D written on one roll and 1970-S on another roll. Maybe if I just sort 2 rolls tonight I can have a really good percentage.. LOL. I looked at the coins in the roll marked 1970-S.. mostly BU. No small dates, but I did find one that appears to be a double die.

Today was a pretty good coin day.
Sorting Report for today. The first box I sorted had 36.84% copper! I thought I was in Michigan or something. Of course that little foot massage we had here last night was a good reminder of where I really am.. those never last long enough. I knew I should quit after 1 box and have a good percentage, but boxes of pennies are kind of like Lays potato chips for me.. I can't stop after just one.
5 Boxes CWR pennies 3157 Copper 42 darn dimes - including 32 in just one box.. a single box record! 25.26%
Somebody asked about how many dimes I had gotten out of penny rolls the other day. I have only been tracking my dimes for the last 2 months. During that time I have found 114 darn dimes.
Coin Buying Report for today: Bank of the West - Danville 60 CWR pennies 30 CWR nickels 60 CWR dimes
Bank of America - Richmond 1 Box BWR pennies 1 Box BWR nickels
Wells Fargo - Pinole 1 Box BWR pennies
Loomis Coin Drop at work 2 BWR pennies 5 BWR nickels
EBAY 5 Rolls BU Silver Franklin Half Dollars
If your percentages are low.. just sort more.

Picked up $25 CWR during lunch today at work. And as an added bonus, they had 20 Eisenhower dollars with six being bicentennial. I also found out that in the office at work we had a Royal Sovereign FS-4DA. My boss let me have it!
Being a hand sorter my biggest problem is totaling my coppers. Not any more. I can finally post my totals. Probably $200-$300 worth. Still need to sort two Brinks boxes and $25 from today. Well I better get busy.
Deal
p.s. Am I the only one that buys Eisenhower dollars? I think I saw HCBTT mention he did.
I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks. |

You're out of control, HCBTT---Amazing the quantities you're going through!

Hey, I take most of it back to the bank once I'm done playin' with it.. I only keep about 20% of the pennies.
I like Ike too! I grab them every chance I get.. just don't get many chances.
Don't put those Ikes in the Royal Sovereign NotABigDeal.. they will seriously hang it up. That Royal Sovereign is a good little machine.. I have one of those in the stable also. You just have to be careful not to overload it. It is great for counting out rolls if you don't want to count by hand and don't have an automatic rolling machine handy.

Didn't get many coins yesterday.. will try to make up for it today.
Stopped by the gas station on the way home from work.. saw one of those "take a penny, leava a penny" piles on the counter.. thought about NotABigDeal.. smiled, and grabbed all three pennies!
Loomis Coin Drop at work: 5 CWR nickels 2 CWR pennies
Coin sorting report for yesterday: 4 Boxes pennies 1830 Copper 1 darn dime 18.30%
The one good thing about this run of low percentage is I have more money to take back to the bank to buy more pennies with.
-a few more than I had before..

Those are great. I always look in them. Those take-a-penny containers usually contain a high percentage of copper for some reason. I will have my totals later tonight or tomorrow.

Last Weeks Results: 10 Boxes Sorted 17,196 zincs returned 7,804 coppers kept 31.22%
I got a surprise when picking up one of my orders this week. Instead of the usual machine wrapped shotguns rolls they handed my 6 boxes of customer wrapped rolls! I weighed them and they seemed pretty average, but I am still excited by the prospect of going through them. I have high hopes for lots of stray dimes or maybe a roll of solid wheats...ok I'm dreaming.

Thanks to the Royal Sovereign, I finally have some totals.
$75 CWR 1928 Cu 7 CuCA 4 non-CuCA 20 wheats 3 dimes 25.7%
$175 worth of Brinks boxes 4875 Cu 11 CuCA One was another '67 centennial 6 nonCuCA 54 wheats 27.8%
I have more to go through, but the poor RS will probably start smoking or catch fire or something. I guess I can sort some more then.

Great percentage horgad. I think I should move to Indianapolis.
It's great that we can come here and share our dreams. Hey, it could happen.. I get those stray dimes all the time.. and then today I got 100 rolls of solid wheats in a bag.

I'm not really posting a complete report, but I started sorting my CWR and the first one I pulled out was all brittle. I opened it and it is a complete roll of really shiny (professional grader as you can see), 1964D's. All but one look great. Don't know if they are worth anything or not. Not as exciting as rolls of wheats....but fun for me. I would flip out if I had a roll of wheats all at once. If only it is an omen of things to come....come on Indian.

11/4 Local Branch $35 BWR Pennies $40 CWR Royal Sovereign style dimes
I havent went through the pennies yet, but the dimes yielded 1 63'-D and a 42' candian dime (I believe its a king). The weighing of the rolls helped a little, but it seems the regular candian dimes seemed to screw up the system. Also whats your guys odds of getting a silver dime? I think I read it here once that it is 1 in 500.
