Found my very FIRST indian head in the wild last night! It is a 1906 found in a standard brinks box. Started sorting in October of 2008 and sorted 216,400 pennies before I found this beauty! What made the find even sweeter was that the indian was flanked on either side by a pair of 1932 canadian kings! And the kings where flanked on both sides by 5 wheaties!
They were found in a single roll half way through the box in this order: Wheat - Wheat - Wheat - King - Indian - King - Wheat - Wheat
Almost like the kings and wheats were protecting the lone wild indian from the zinc |

I'm tracking JUST the 1909 "crossover year" finds here, if you want to post them: You must be logged in to see this link. I went ahead and posted the three (doubledot, jwray, jonascollegefund) that have already said they found one. |

I've found 4 in the last ~$1100.
1880 - cull (SUPER THIN coin...) 1883 - a nice coin w/ full LIBERTY 1889 - very smooth from years of use... 1890 - cull (looks like it spent some time in the ground)
The 1883 & 1889 came out the zinc side on the Ryedale, the other two were found amongst the coppers. |

What date Cu penny are you using for your Ryedale's target? Is it post-1963? I wonder if a pre-1942 target would cause the Ryedale to reject memorial cents? ----- 1864 to 1942: 95.0% Copper and 5.0% Zinc & Tin (bronze mix) 1944 to 1946: 95.0% Copper and 5.0% Zinc & Tin (bronze mix) but made from cartridge casings and slightly off color 1947-1962: 95.0% Copper and 5.0% Zinc & Tin (bronze mix) 1963-1982: 95.0% Cu and 5.0% Zinc -----

I use an 80 and have only tuned it once for oldies. Not worth it unless you got more than one machine to run IMO. |

Just found number 3 a, 1906, no liberty and a big gob of glue on the obverse.
Elderly old lady must have stripped it out of dead husband's collection.
Is 'brain damaged' really inappropriate? |

FINALLY!!
I was beginning to get a little frustrated, as I had passed the quarter-ton mark with nary a tribe member in sight. Well that all changed. As I was emptying out a plastic-wrapped roll from a Brinks box, I noticed the one on the end had a different pattern. When I first reached for it, I thought it was a European coin or something because I didn't recognize the design on the back. But when I flipped that baby over and saw the Indian's profile, I was stunned. It's a 1901, and looks to be in pretty good shape.
Now I can breathe a sigh of relief and start hoping for #2. After all, a single Indian doesn't make for much of a tribe! |
