I'm new to penny-sorting/collecting/hoarding, and discovered this site. I found a U.S. one-cent coin with two "tails" (Lincoln Memorial on both sides of the coin). How rare is this? How do I found out if it has any numismatic or other value?

Welcome to the forum. I can't say what it might be worth but maybe someone else can. It sounds like you might have something there.

Welcome to the site PennyLane.
I have a suspicion that you may have a magician's coin, a coin especially made for a magic trick, or it could possiblly have been used as a crooked decision maker (heads you win, tails I win.) I am not sure of the numismatic value it may have, though as a novelty it might be worth a dollar or two.
Just remember, any question you may have is welcome since forum members are always glad to pass on any knowledge they may have, or if the question is a little tricky, it will encourage forum members to dig up the answer. Once again, welcome to the forum. (The more the merrier.)
I should have chosen "Cut-n-Paste" as a forum name, since that is what I do, mostly. |

Pencilvanian is right... Google up "magician's coin" for a better description. It'll tell you where to look for the seam of 2 joined coins.
As I understand, it is impossible for the dies to create such a coin.

On eBay under Two Headed Coin a magic trick consisting of a two headed penny goes for $4.99.
Nice find for just a cent!

If you look up magic stores you, you may find one near you. They usually have those in head/head or tail/tail. Also available in Nickels, Quarters and occationally Halves. The more fun one is the Cent on one side and the Dime on the other. True they do sell for about $5 and up. You can make up this cost by just betting people for coffee and flipping a coin.

Great idea! I think I will try to have some "fun" with it.

Oh, one more thing. If you use it to flip for money, be carefull you don't get caught. For a cup of coffee, many think it is just funny when they find out. Of course then stuck with buying coffee to make up for that prank.

just carl: I am somewhat offended by your insinuations. (a) You were the one who first suggested I should try to take advantage of others by "betting people for coffee and flipping a coin". (b) You followed up a month later by suggesting that I should intentionally attempt to defraud people: "be careful you don't get caught".
PLEASE NOTE: At no time have I had any intention of defrauding anyone with this coin (either for money or coffee). All of my friends, family, and most of the store clerks in my town know that I collect "old pennies". My idea of having "fun" was to simply show this coin to those who know me, and to watch their reactions. Please don't make assumptions about the intent of others, and please don't encourage criminal activity.

Pennylane: You are taking things to seriously. You sound like your in a small town. I'm in a large city area and it still is fun to have fun. Flipping for coffee at work is more for fun than for the monitary rewards. On a commuter train I have flipped for quarters with the conductor and then showed him the two headed one. He too thought it was funny. You just have to acquire a sence of humor. You said your new to coin collecting and as you see some of the things on coins in ebay, you too will develope a sence of humor.
