Today while sorting through a few nickels of mine I found one that seemed different from the orhers. Usually when I look at the back of a US Nickel the dome of Monticello looks curved, like an upside down bowl. On this nickel, the dome was segmented, I could distinctly see a thin line where the segments met, the metal was raised where the segments met and it was too perfect to have been made by some accidental ding on the coin.
I compared it to a mint state nickel I had and noticed that it also had a segmented dome. I never knew that this fine detail existed, though it can't be seen in the picture in the Whitman Redbook, nor does the Redbook mention this detail. An interesting discovery if I say so myself.
I should have chosen "Cut-n-Paste" as a forum name, since that is what I do, mostly.
