Picked up a couple of boxes from a new bank today. I opened up a few rolls and nothing out of the ordinary. I noticed a bunch of the wrappers looked a bit old (fuzzy). I picked one up and "Wheat Heads" was written on it. I'm thinking, of course, that they "used to" have wheats in it but were recycled to deposit memorials.

When I open it up.....a full roll of wheaties. Wow, I've never found a full roll of wheats before. I look down at the box again and see there are a lot of "fuzzy" wrappers. I pull them out and there are 26, yes 26, rolls that have "Wheat" or Wheat Heads" written on them. They can't all be full of wheats can they? Oh yes they can!!!!

My wife, nine year old son and I opened up all the rolls and each were rolls of complete wheaties. Then we checked the remaining rolls and found 4 more that had not been marked.

30 rolls from one box. 1500 wheaties. I have never found more than 25 in a box before. Yes, I did check the other box and all normal rolls. I'll be going back tomorrow to see if there is anymore but I doubt it.

We separated the wheats that were prior to 1940 (smaller pile in picture) and have 58 from the 30s, 13 from the 20s and 8 in the teens. The earliest is a 1916s. No key dates and they are all well circulated. No BUs or AUs but I am not complaining. There are a lot of 1955s and I will have to take some time to check for DDs but am not holding my breath on that either.

This is the kind of thing that makes this hobby really fun. You just never know what you will find.

Wow, what a score, I'm envious! That's the kind of thing that makes hand-sorting fun. If you had just dumped them in a Ryedale hopper you'd never have known, just thought you had a real good batch overall

Hoard now and hold on!

Wow.. Great Score!!! When you go back tomorrow be sure to ask for all the nickel rolls that say Buffalo on them too. Actually, you should buy out all demominations just in case. Often hoards like this get deposited together. You might get lucky on dimes, quarters or halves. The Silver Santa is about ready to pay another lucky member a visit.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

What an amazing find. None of the banks in my area have CWRs. What types of banks can these be found at? When I visited Canada on vacation I came back with a box of pennies and they were all CWRs but I know thats how banks in Canada do it. All boxes in my area are NF String rolls...

Must....sort...more...halves....need...MORE...SILVER!!!!!!!!

Heavy Metal...I am so happy for you and especially for your young son. What an awesome thrill that had to have been for all of you. Fantastic memories to last a lifetime. I am sure he is hooked now on coin collecting forever.

Great going. Please leave some for the rest of us, though.
