Ding Ding Ding.. we have a winner! A full and complete answer. I thought I would catch folks on the bonus question. The coinage act of 1965 remonetized all previously issued US coins. I have met David Lange.. really nice guy, serious researcher, and a great writer.

I'm gonna veer even further off topic, but I read your question and it made me think of something I read the other day about foreign coinage being used in the early US. This was adapted from stuff I found on the mint website.

That's a really big "if"...

As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?
