I posted this under sorting percentages, but it turns out I was wrong about the composition of tombac coins
Pre 1955 nickels of Canda- 1952-1954 Chromium & nickel plated steel 1951 If it had the image of the bicentennial of nickel in the front it was nickel, if not, it was Chromium & nickel plated steel 1946-1950 nickel 1944-1945 chrome plated steel
1942-1943 Tombac (NOT a nickel alloy, Tombac content 88% copper 12% zinc, a bronze alloy )
1942 if round, nickel 1922-1941 nickel 1920-1921 SILVER .80% 1919 & earlier SILVER .925
I hope nobody bought a bunch of tombac nickels thiking they were a nickel alloy before I could fix the mistake.
Also, a coin that is at least 80% nickel content is magnetic, if less than 80% nickel, it loses its magnetic properties. Per "Coin Clinic" by Alan Herbert Canadian Coins ch 12 p.38-41
I should have chosen "Cut-n-Paste" as a forum name, since that is what I do, mostly.
