| I wish that I would have a coinstar to check the rejects to see what I could find. |

| Coinstars do accept silver, but silver gets rejected more than regular coins. |

| Silver dimes are often too light for the coin star machine, but I am not sure that they always fall out at the reject tray. CoinStar internally rejects a lot of silver; but it doesn't spit it all out. There is an internal reject bucket. |

Fancy someone loving Coinstar machines!
But if I got silver from them I would love them too.
None yet, though. |

Re: Coinstar internal reject bucket
What happens to the coins in the internal reject bucket? Who gets to keep the silver coins that drop into this bucket?
Take care,
Jeff |

There is not an internal reject bucket that the machine dumps into. The coins that go inside the machine can either
A: go into the left bid B: go into the right bin C: go out the reject hole D: get stuck and not come out
There is a little bucket on the inside of the door that has misc coin in it though. That is maybe what you are refering to as the internal reject bucket? This bucket is used for when the machine gets emptied if there loose junk in there it just gets thwon in the bucket. The services guys empty this bucket everytime they have to go service the machine. |

| Thank you, I am sure you are correct. My tour of the inside of a coinstar machine was not as detailed as I would have liked. I thought that internal bucket was for auto-rejected coins. It was filled with all sorts of weird coins when I saw it, Euro coins, several south african (non-gold), Israeli, etc. The Canadian and Mexican coins were salvaged, but I think all the rest get thrown away. Same happens at banks in my area. I asked for the reject coins (foreign) from the coin sorters at a couple of banks. Nope, we throw them away. I can't have them? No, that would be theft. Can I buy the Canadian --- I'll pay face value in US. No. Can I buy the Canadian at face value, and donate the money to the Cancer society? No. Probably just as well, since I don't really want to fill my car with un-spendable money. But it just seems odd to throw away money. |

| Perhaps they only give silver to those who put coins into them. I have found silver twice at Coinstar machines, just as WIZARD cites above. Also, highroller's description of the inside of a machine is quite accurate. I got to do a lot of detailed tinkering with my local machine when it crashed twice during counting due to power outages. The lady at the grocery store let me have at it to try to reboot the machine. |
Just my two cents! |

| I sometimes use the coin star but get the e-certificated for Lowe's no fees. Once the machine stopped and the store clerk came to check it. She was going to dump the internal bucket in the trash. It was about half full so I asked if I could have the coins. There were bent, broken, plastic, dirty, gunky, foreign coins but was worth asking. Several $ worth. |

| I once spoke with a technician who was doing maintenance work on a CoinStar machine. I walked up while he had the machine's front door open, mentioned that I was a foreign coin collector, and asked if I could keep the coins on the magnet. (I've asked this same question to other machine technicians, and they've scooped the handful of foreign coins, usually eurocoins, off the magnet and put them in my hands, without hesitation.) This guy differed. He says that any coins that don't go into the machine's reject tray or the collection bin are actually property of a "third party agency" that has a contract with CoinStar to keep the mysterious "rejected but not to the reject tray" coins. |

| Where is the reject tray? I saw the machine at the supermarket. I looked but didn't see a reject tray. |

| I have yet to find any silver in the coin machines. I am going to find out when the technician comes to change out the machine and try to buy it all off him. |

| My find so far has been a Mercury dime. Pretty good first find if I don't say. I always check the reject tray when I walk past one. Usually I find zinc pennies or regular clad coins, game tokens, batteries, buttons if anything in the tray. |

I found this over at Coinflation:

I would keep a good tally on what you drop and avoid mixed coinage if you use coin counting machines. |
