So, I haven't sorted a box of pennies since July, and I was busy with those 2 gallon jugs for a while and took a break from sorting right after that. Yesterday, I stopped by my favorite BoA branch to deposit a check and decided to pick up a box of pennies. For some reason every box i've gotten from this particular branch has high percentages and at least 20+ wheats per box. It was a machine/bank wrapped CWI box without a date stamped on it.
So I cracked the first roll I saw with a wheatie showing on the end, and sure enough the very first roll produced 8 wheats and 50% CU. I thought to myself, this is going to be a very good sort. I was opening roll and roll and wheats were spilling out on almost every roll. The most I counted was 9 wheats from a single roll, and a few more 8 wheatie rolls.
At the end of the box, I had a total of 96 Wheat pennies, almost all dated in the 50's, with about 10 in the 40's and the oldest date was a 1938-P. Ony one S-mint wheat, a 1947-S. This box also had 7 S-mint Memorials, the most I've ever seen from a single box, and a lonely 1978 Bermuda Pig. A few of the wheats were nice and shinny in AU condition. Total CU percentage ended up being 33.3% These are the types of boxes that keep me coming back for more.

Very nice! That doubles my best wheat box. I remember when I had that one with close to 50 wheats, and getting excited with the finds. I could imagine how awesome it was to get double that. Congrats! |

Ah, nice find! I had a teller one day have a customer bring in a hand full of rolled pennies. She saw there were some wheat pennies so she saved them for me. Several rolls ended up being all steel wheats! You got to love those moments! |

Nice find. I don't get much out of the boxes. Around here, bags are where it's at.

Nice find on the wheat box! It would hurt to stop by that branch and press your luck on another box. |
