We used a vacuum cleaner shell we found the other night, and a razor blade.

Using a drimmel we drilled a hole, then melted the razor blade upright over the hole, and securing it with a screw. When you run the wire in, and pull it out of the other side of the hole the razor blade makes a nice slit down the wire's plastic installation allowing us to simply pull out the copper from the wire. lol

I'll post pictures soon.
we got sick of trying to strip the wires by hand...

Nice, They have industrial strippers. But who wants to pay for something you can make at home.

Can't take stripped wire to the yard in AZ as they will not take it! Unless you are a industrual account.

We just take ours and build a good hot fire....

Bump. Please post pics! I have a bunch of wire lying around and I'm looking for quicker ways to strip them.

Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.

I've never yet taken any copper to a scrap yard...just found my 1st cord that I stripped. I too live in AZ and it sounds like they don't take stripped. Should I not be stripping?

Thanks Hobo...That makes it easier for me. It's tough stripping for me with my artritic hands. I didn't realize they would pay that for insulated wire. My thoughts were to bag small amounts of clean #1 copper in let's say 1 to 5 lb bags to sell or trade as Copper Bullion just in case TSHTF. Seems to make more sense at least in AZ to recycle any insulated wire at the scrap yard.
