i thought we'd like to talk about certain hlidays and how we would prepare if we were stuck long term without fresh groceries or grocery stores. the idea is to choose at least 5 holidays. then brainstorm what you usually have/do for those holidays. yes, special occassions count as well.
a good example would be

1. birthday/anniversary
2. Christmas Eve/Day
3. Easter
4. St. Patrick's Day
5. St. Valentine's Day

what do you and yours usually do? how would you prepare for a disruption? what would you put in your holiday emergency box?

these are simply my 5 examples. you may have 5 different examples. different religions. or even non-religious holidays. or even a made up holiday/season such as SWIMMER(SUMMER/WINTER).

Christmas Eve/Day: definitely make sure to have presents already giftwrapped. make sure you have the appropriate bible readings available. include a book or two on Christmas in the pack. seasonal plates, cups, napkins, etc... canned food as you celebrate in your home. in my family we eat lechon--a side of roast pig!!! so we would have canned food of the following: ham, ham, ham!!! honey, yams, tomatoes, banana chips (usualy fried bananas), black beans and rice, onions, celery, cilantro (dried), pie filling (pumpkin, apple, whatever!)

Thanksgiving Day: canned turkey, mixed veggies, mashed potato flakes, gravy mix, jellied cranberries, yams, marshmellow, mac and cheese!!! the latter one is new to me. that one seems to be an ethnic preference. just like black beans and rice are to my family.
