With copper cents selling so low, i'm interested to hear if anyone knows of good shipping providers for heavy shipments.
1. Sure we can send $100 USPS for a fee of $10. This eats about 10% off your sale.
2. Delivery/Pick-up may or may not be cheaper depending on the amount being transported.
3. But what about sales above 70 lbs??? Any Ideas?

You will not find any way to ship 70 pounds for less than $10, period. We are completely spoiled with Flat Rate Boxes. How else are you going to send $100 in pennies from coast to coast in 3 days for under 15 cents per pound? I receive shipments from Canada and Australia quite often, and postage is not cheap. A 20 pound box from Canada can run $25+, and a 4 pound box from Australia can run $40+. USPS Flat Rate Boxes are an incredible deal.
If you are shipping a lot, say over 1500 pounds, then you *might* get a slightly better price by stacking them on a pallet and shipping freight, but only if you can get a pallet for free, the necessary strapping or stretch wrap for free, have free access to a forklift, and already have an open account with a carrier where you get a volume discount. Otherwise the cost of materials and the freight company's lift gate charge will eat up any potential savings. |

Nate, have you ever heard of anyone actually shipping on an LTL carrier? While I haven't actually been on the phone yet with a carrier, I have had a few folks tell me locally they didn't think that they would accept the load because of it being money and wouldn't want the liablity. I'm going to be checking into this soon and report back. But.... I still don't think there's a cheaper way than usps. It would just be easier to get it all on one big shipment instead of strung out in 20 different shipments. |

I just want to sell copper cents regularly at 1.25 - 1.3 after shipping fees. I'm not waiting for the major payout just looking to move what I have when I have it.

No, I haven't seen it done with pennies. If I were going to try it, I think I'd box them up in plain boxes and just fill out the paperwork for "copper parts." Alternatively you could stack sealed bank bags and then cover the whole thing with a solid color wrap so the pennies aren't visible, but I would be afraid of a puncture from a stray forklift...imagine the scene that would cause on the loading dock or in the trailer |
