Hi all,

While I was dumping about $300 in pennies at a local bank, a teller there mentioned that he knew a guy that was trying to return over $8000 in nickels (I assume these are all or mostly US). I am going back to the bank today to give that teller my info to see if i can't meet this collector. Seems like they were trying to hit it rich and when the idea didn't pan out he's having trouble dumping them at any one bank.

I only collect buf's and silver nickels. So i'm interested to see if anyone is at all interested, as i'd be very willing to send any and all other nickels to anyone that hoards them.

I'll reply to this post if I ever hear back from this guy.

I'd gladly buy them @ melt. ;-)

The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities.

JobIII: Where are you within the United States?

I'm sure that a number of members wouldn't mind a bit of a road trip to see what's up with these :)

I'm located in the Boston region of Mass. But i'm not sure if i'll be hearing from this teller. We had a little bit of an altercation yesterday, so words were said by the teller and now i feel obiglated to make a complaint. So needless to say this might hurt my chances of learning anything more about the nickels.

But who knows,

The tellers here in northern Virginia aren't to nice.

Come to think of it this whole region has turned out to be that way.

Talking with an middle-aged guy the other day at the bank, he seemed shocked when I told him that I was a native of the town.

(sigh)

Yeah, some people are a little difficult to work with, me being one of them from the banks POV.

It was probably Ardent trying to cash in some of his nickel hoard.

What do you look for? Nickels, pennies, halves? I'm not a big nickel sorter at all. And halves for the most part are also no longer big on my list due to recent bills and other expenses. So i'm really just sorting pennies for the most part.

still it's a large region and I'm a small sorter. I'm sure we'll enjoy the rewards without any issues...

I'm only focusing on pennies at the moment as well. I tried searching other denominations on several occasions, but keep getting skunked so I am sticking to the pennies for now.

I'm thinking about switching out of pennies again because there's no market for them once you have a decent amount to hand off. I only bring in around $100 copper cents a week, but now i'm sitting on a pile that no one is interested in.... back to silver.

Oh and Ponce, the post is for $8000 of Nickels. This could certainly increase anyone's supply. But i've not heard from this individual to date... :( I was really excited about reaping a major war nickel stash.

I know that there isn't much of an "above face" market for for copper pennies right now, but I think that will change in the next several years. I view my pennies as less of an investment and more of a wealth preservation strategy.

If you want quick return on your money you must go to halves you can turn the silver quickly but pennies are for the long term and I believe that the return will be outstanding at that time.

I agree with you both. But i'm not willing to wait it out. Dollar-cost averaging IMHO is the way to go with Cu sorting.
