Ok ever since I have been coming to this site I have been picking up ideas here and there. First I searched pennies for copper. makes sense but the time vrs return without a Ryedale is low. Then I switch to searching for silver in 1/2's. I have done pretty well with that thus far. However, additonally I have been trying to make money out of the junk find alongside the road, IE junk/trash. Then from the money I make doing that I buy junk silver for my stash. effectively turning junk into silver. How is that for Alecomy!

So this is what I have been doing to make money.

1) I collect scrap metal and cash it in. So far I have made about $120 in cans and stuff.

2) I find old bikes in the trash and fix them up and sell them. So far I have made about $600.

3) I do odd jobs for people in my area for cash. Manly tilling their gardens in the spring. Roughly $600 from that.

4) I have found some junk in the trash that I fix/clean and then sell. I have made about $100 from that.

5) I have sold some crap from around my house. CD's and other stuff. I have made about $50 from that.

So, thus far I have made close to $1500 from junk that is now a safety deposit box full of silver! Take that Obama!

Anyone else have any ideas for making money like this? Especially from trash?

Congratulations- way to fight and take back what's yours!

The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities.

I agree. Get those coins out of the bank.

Nice job on raising the extra cash though.

Hate to be the odd one out, but it doesn't hurt to have some silver in the safety deposit box. I have fire safes at home, but they only work to a certain temp. They don't stop a burgler either. Once in history, has the government confiscated gold from safety deposit boxes. Never silver.

No offense, but there is talk about taking ones 401k and pensions to supplement social security. If we get to that point. What makes you think they won't come after everything ?

Plus you are paying between $30 and $60 a year for that box. Over 20 years that is a lot.

I would agree get yourself a safe and keep the silver close to home, hide the safe and don't pay the fees for a box

I had a box and then I just did the math: $50 a year x 30 years = $1,500. For half of that you can get a really nice safe. You can get a decent one for a quarter of that.

I do the bike thing myself. I also collect scrap metal and cash it in. I was making about $100 a week when the scrap prices were up. Now I only take in stuff now and then. I have some copper and brass that I've been sitting on waiting for prices to go up again. Not helping is the fact I wrecked my truck awhile back and have been unable to replace it yet.

Are you throwing that out?

Sorry to hear about your truck. Would this current Cash for Clunkers program assist you in bringing the value of your wrecked truck up to where you could replace it? Just a thought.
