Looking for a good scrapping truck. Whats a good one? I would guess 4cyl would be the best for cruising the streets in search of treasure. I also need a big engined truck to tow my boat. I wish they would come out with a full size 3 cyl turbo diesel.

scrappin" all over

I bought an '86 Chevy Silverado about a month ago, mainly as a spare vehicle but also to haul scrap. 350 motor, 4-wheel drive, 8 ft. bed... it's perfect. It was getting to difficult doing it out of a Trailblazer lol. My suggestion is keep your eyes peeled for a clean, good running mid-80's full-size pickup. You mentioned the fuel mileage issue, so maybe keep a smaller truck like a Ford Ranger or Chevy S-10 in mind.

I have a '86 Chevy El Camino that i drive everyday, so i use it for scraping also. It runs great and gets decent gas mileage. It has a 4.3 liter V-6 engine.

Used to own a '90 ford ranger. Those smaller trucks back in the 80s & early 90s were workhouse trucks. Trucks nowadays seem to be form over function.

Used to load bag of concrete as a part time job. A lot of the older vehicles could handle a lot of weight, while the newer vehicles looked very unsafe with a far less load placed on it. It could be due to the fact that they have softer suspensions with more travel (better riding).

I have and use two 90 ford rangers daily. They are good for up to about 3000 lbs if you are careful how you load. However an Isuzu NPR is my choice for both fuel economy and load capacity.

I had a '98 Dodge Ram 1500, but wrecked it last January. It was a great scrap wagon. Now I have a 2000 Nissan Altima. Much better gas mileage, but no carrying room. I miss my truck!

Are you throwing that out?
