CORRECT!

The key thing to look for is the short tailed "9".

I can remember back in 1960 when I went to my grammas. She had a small tin container in which she put her pennies. Sure enough, I found a shiny new 1960 Philadelphia Small Date cent. I found about a dozen of them that year. I think they were selling as high as $10 each BU ($500/roll) in the early '60s; circulated ones for $5; even the 1960-D Small Dates were selling at $2 each. $5 was a lot of money for a kid in 1960 because the coinage then was 90% silver. I collected pennies in those days as I looked through bank rolls; couldn't afford any silver coin collections.

Just look at the 1960 Red Book prices and see what $10 could buy. Of course, that $10 was a roll of silver quarters.

1909-S VDB UNC $85
1922 (Plain) EF $30
1955 Doubled Die Unc $50
1877 Indian EF $100
1857 Flying Eagle UNC $25
1856 Flying Eagle Proof $750
1793 Chain Cent Fine $190

it looks like the one on the right is a small date but can we get a picture of it alone? I just look at the 6 to tell small from large

I hope this is a good enough pic for you... Otherwise I can take another... I have a cheap camera and still learning how to get close ups with it... Actually the last few I have taken with with a loupe over the lense, hence the blurriness as the image gets further away from the center.

The coin on the right is a small date. The key to identification of the small date 60's is the 9, but not in the tail. On this particular issue, the rounded top of the 9 on the large-date will always rise above the top of the 1. While the top of the 9 on the small-date is flush with the top of the 1.
Concentrating on the other digits can fool you (and make your eyes tired). Just check that 1-9 relationship! Cheers,
Fudd

It's a small date.
I usually am tippped off when the hole in the "0" is just about the same size as the hole in the "6".
It becomes even more obvious when compared to a regular '60 (like your first pic).

Although that one is the small date without a complete photo of the entire coin it is difficult to tell the condition of the entire coin. Note that the 60D small or large dates are not really of any great value especially in low grades. It's the 60 Phily that is worth something in the small date. Almost as difficult to tell one from another as the 70S.

Not a ton of value, the Philadelphia in a MS state is only worth a few bucks...
