I voted no that the mint should not stop producing the penny. The results were pretty much what I expected.

Voting on things like that is like the TV newstations that ask for your vote on all kinds of different subjects. I can't believe there are so many people that actually think that our government would either stop or continue making the cent due to a popular reaction.

If the penny dies, it will be due to lack of commerical demand. Any attempt otherwise, whether by fiat or by citizen action, will be premature. The half dollar has set the precendent for how the penny will die... when enough businesses decide to stop using them.
