I was wondering what you guys thought about this, should i sell my stash of 40 percent halves and invest it in pure silver or should i just hold on to it? what are your plans with your 40 percent?

| I'm keeping what 40% I have. Silver is silver. However, personally I am now only buying 90% unless I just get a great deal on the 40%. Basically the 40% stuff just takes up too much storage space, but I would not sell the stuff at fire sale prices just to get rid of it. |

No matter the price, sell them. Use the proceeds to purchase your next batch of circulating halfs from the bank.
Keep the 90's, sell the 40's.
If you can get a good trade of 40% to 999, then take that instead. But good trades will be tough to get |

I'm keeping both 40% and 90%. If the price is right, I'd buy more of either with fiat.
Doing trades is expensive; shipping costs add up. |

Keep them. In any trade you loose part of the value. I like the 40% as it is silver and most people will see a large coin of silver and the mental effect is a better deal.
I think in a price fxing situation these will be valuable to have. When you offer to buy at face vaule with some 40% silver mixed in it will meet the rules, but also give you an advantage over others. |

| I keep both if I can get a good deal, but now I trying for 90% if I have to buy it. I would consider trading silver bars for 40% but with 40% selling below I dont't if a person can put a deal together |

I would trade them for 90% or .999 fine. Problem is your going to take a hit because .999 normally carries a premium and sometimes 40% goes under spot.
I would talk to a few local dealers or something and see what they can do for you. It helps if you buy something also during the trade. Os if he offers you say 25 ounces than say what if I buy another 10 ounces on top of the trade...can you give me a better trade price?
Theres lots of ways of working with it, but buying something is key because the dealer wants to make money. If he knows he is making money in the sale than he/she probably will be more willing to work with you on the trade.

Hi there-
I used to liquidate 40% and war nicks cuz I was also worried about someone not willing to buy it, but cmon- If things get REALLY bad, people are going to be doing ANYTHING to get precious metals.
F'r instance, people are getting electrocuted and willing to risk death just to get copper tubing. I don't think anyone will turn their nose up at a recognized gold or silver coin of ANY purity if SHTF.
Only thing I wouldn't get into is numismatic pieces or weird commemorative stuff from other countries.
90% is the best though- :D JMO

I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

40% takes a lot more effort and money to refine than 90%. Therefore it usually sells at a discount. When prices go really high your 40% will most likely be worth a lot less than melt value.
If your local coin dealers where in business when silver hit $50/oz they will tell you that not even 90% was selling near spot.
Yes, I know that if silver goes way high now that its a total differnt senario, but the costs of refining 40% is a lot more than 90% still. |

I hate to say, but I expect 40% to sell at a discount as it was acquired a discount to spot. I also understand its not as liquid due to desirability. Currently, in the US the most liquid form of silver is an ASE. However, I still think 40% is useful in diversifying my stack.

| when you accumulate a decent amount, you should sell it and trade up to higher purity IMO. $1000 face of 40% is a lot bulkier than $400 face of 90% or 28 10toz .999 bars or 4 AGEs. Makes a difference whether you're storing it in a safe or hiding spot. |
