Yeah I do
When I was about 5 my brother and I found one in the woods. We were playing with it and I wanted to push it so I put my hands down on the wheels to stop it.
A few stitches later my thumb stopped bleeding. |

When I was a kid they were a hot item. Amish near me still use them. I can't tell you why gas powered mowers became popular unless it's because you have to (I suppose) be moving at at fairly good pace to get the grass cut. |

| Found one in my grandmother's basement when she moved to a new house. Little rusty but still worked. I think an uncle of mine took it home. |

| We used to have one when I was a kid and thought it was a fun thing. After just mowing my 1 acre over grown yard I am so glad I have a gas powered. Barely get it done with it lol. No riding for me, got to get those pounds off before I start getting taxed for the excess. |

I have one. Back when I was single, I owned a townhouse with a small yard. When my old gas mower died, instead of spending a few hundred on a new gas mower, I bought this manual push mower from Home Depot for about $60.
While it does work, there are some drawbacks.
1. Sometimes you have to go over the same spot more than once to make sure the grass is cut properly.
2. It is much less effective if the grass is at all wet.
3. Twigs or other types of debris will cause the blades to jam.
4. Not very effective over uneven terrain.
Perhaps the older models are more well-made, but the unit I have takes more about 3Xs as long to mow as a gas mower. I still have it in a my tool shed and I suppose I'll have to dust it off if things get bad.
I also have an old ("L" shaped) scythe that my wife inherited from her grandfather. It is light-weight and easy to handle. It can also be used to cut grass if handled correctly. |

| I think that if things go that bad, you should buy a goat or sheep and have them eat your grass. Especially if you have one acre or more. If things become lawless then no one will care if you have goats and sheep in yards and chickens in your house. |

| i have one that cost about 150-200. its Scotts brand and is painted green. i hate it. i have bermuda in the front and fescue in the back. the biggest problem is that it does not cut weeds. if you can get the thing to work, somehow magically the weeds don't get cut - they fold down and then stand back up. i know that sounds impossible but its true. second, for it to even cut the grass, you need to take several passes. you also have to get the blades spinning fairly fast so you really have to push fast. so there is a lot more effort involved than just pushing - you basically have to run with the thing, and then make several passes. also, you can't run at the edges where you turn, so that never gets cut effectively. and the weeds even in the middle never get cut. |
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X

| If the grid goes down, who'd care about the lawn if they can't even heat water to wash their ass? Or how're you going to water the lawn if their is no power to run the local water treatment plant? |

Back at my old home I used to mow the yard with a manual mower. Those spinning blades are kinda scary though. |

| I'm kind of with Neckro, how my lawn looked would be the least of my worries. Heck I would probably want it to get tall so someone could come bale it for hay. |

I have one, though because of the two places I've lived in the last three years, I'm not currently using it.
Theo describes it well.
I spent about $110 on mine. Helps if you can walk at a good pace(blades turn faster). Hard to mow if you let the grass get to tall. Works much better on certain grasses....(but I couldn't tell you the names of the ones it works best on)
I liked having it and using it. Good exercise. Didn't have to worry about gas or oil or the two combined, or electric cords.
Will use it again once I get a place with a yard(grass type willing). |

| I have an old one and it makes for a good workout. There are various levels of the sxxt hitting the fan. Just because things get tuff doesn't mean everyone won't want to cut their grass amymore. Back during the great depression they still did and they used the old manual mowers to do so. |

True, but in a worst case scenario, keeping your yard too nice might attract potential thieves. |

Good point, Theo. I hadn't thought of that, but it makes perfect sense. |
