mail yourself 5 of the flat rate boxes filled with bricks. Lets see how he likes picking them all up from you, then delivering them all back. Then ask him if he wants to complain some more.

Guys like him have probably been there for years, hate their jobs, but stay because the pay and benefits are good. So they will do just the bare minimum and complain when they are asked to do above what is normal, even if it's their job. Unfortunately, I dont know that talking to his boss would be all that productive because of the points outlined in the 1st paragraph.

Ultimately it's up to you to decide how to proceed, but if I were you, I would just get the PO Box or mailbox at the UPS Store and have them delivered there. Whatever you decide, good luck!

I 100% agree with CH. Its not worth losing your stuff over. Its very easy for him to make things missing once in awhile.

That's great. Also, make sure each box of bricks is 69 pounds so he can't complain that they weigh over his 70 pound job requirement lift limit.

exactly.... being a hardass about it will accomplish exactly nothing. It'll just escalate the situation, even if you are "right" and do get him into trouble at work. Getting all righteous about it and telling him to read his job description can only HURT you.

The PO delivery guy is one of the last people I'd want to "inappropriate language" off, especially if you're the type to buy and sell precious metals because they arent stupid. They KNOW youre dealing in bullion, and if they or someone they know is less than honest, could cause you to have a very bad day. Either by coming by and stealing your packages or by actually breaking into your house and stealing your bullion. NOT WORTH IT.

Very good point. Gr33nday43 is correct in expecting his mailman to drop off the packages with no complaint. But sometimes, when you're right, all you are is just that . . . in the right. Think about it this way, Greenie: Is it worth the price of a p.o. box to you not to have to listen to this fool gripe and complain, and to know that your packages are safe not just from him, but from anyone who might think of tampering with them?

I know it stinks because you gotta look at the big picture and do what is best for you in the long run. Yeah, you could force the guy to deliver to your door, but he'd be all passive aggressive about it. In the end, you'll benefit from having a box of your own. Besides, you know what they say . . . don't sweat the petty stuff. (And don't pet the sweaty stuff. )

This is absolutely amazing. I can't believe there are those who believe the "Almighty Mailman" is beyond reproach and is some kind of untouchable, unaccountable figure with unchecked powers, striking fear and terror into the hearts of mere mortal men.

Believe it or not, he has a boss. He is accountable to others and he is expected and required by his superiors to do his job to the best of his ability. If he chooses to jeopardize his job/career/liberty by playing idiotic games regarding the basic functions of his job, he will be replaced by someone who will be willing to perform the basic duties of mail delivery, up to and including the delivery of packages. He risks being fired and/or going to jail if he tries any of the things mentioned in the above post. And, ultimately he knows this.

Personally, I'm not the least bit afraid of the big, bad, and scary MAILMAN.

I don't think anyone is afraid of the big, bad mailman. As like any government entity, the system is messed up. I think it's naive to assume the USPS should work like it should. That's why opting for a mailbox is not a bad idea, especially when it's your bullion that somehow might get misplaced by the USPS?

If your coins were in jeopardy by this mailman, what would you do?

No one is afraid of the mailman anymore than they're afraid of getting mugged while walking down the street. But if circumstances dictate taking precautionary measures, then it's your choice whether or not you want to roll the dice anyways.

I've seen enough sxxt from suspected thefts to identity theft to missing mail with USPS to know that a lot of them really dont give a sxxt about you or your packages, and dont seem to be afraid about getting fired. His mail carrier already doesn't give a sxxt, and is damaging his packages. What happens if you complain, and the supervisor doesn't change him out?

Like I said, if youre dealing with BULLION products, which is worth $$$$$$, then it is not smart to be fuking with someone that has an active role on whether or not you actually get your products, someone who is already fuking with your packages, and someone that actually knows what you have and where you live.

No one is afraid? Did you not read the serious concerns over burglary and ruining one's day?

What to do if my coins were in jeopardy by this mailman? What would any reasonable and rational person do? Surely the answer you are looking for involves immediately eliminating the USPS mailman from the equation by opting for a UPS mailbox or PO Box.

What would you do if you started having problems receiving your packages at the UPS store or your PO Box?

I can assure you if said mailman attempted to enter my place of residence as an uninvited or unwelcomed "guest", he would not care at all for the "greeting" I, the inhospitable host, would have in store for him.

Per everyone's advice, it looks as though I will get a PO box. I just did a deal here at for a $300 trade, and things would be messed up for a while if my mail didn't arrive/get there. I scheduled a pickup for some small items Monday, and left him a note telling him that I appreciate his hard work and not to expect as many heavy packages for a while (I reached my hoarding goal). Hopefully we can end this "battle" now, I sure hope so.

Silver Surfer beat me to it.

After I read some more on this thread, The Fear that permeates, makes me sick to my stomach. How we gonna get our government under control when we are cowed by a disgruntled postal worker? Now you have to spend $40 or so and gas and time fot a PO box you didn't need or want, because he said he didn't want to do his job. And destroyed or tried to destroy your package.

I'd take the 40 I was going to spend on a box and buy a camera. Next time he threw one of my packages and busted the bottom out, it would be on tape and would be his job. He does have a boss. And his boss has a boss. And so on.

This just don't seem right to me. The battle has ended untill such time HE wants to pick it up, or you run into another with the same disposition. HE got what HE wanted. Lighter workload, easier day, control over you.

Next time might be you or another another customer, but he will act worse, because he has been showed first he could get away with it, and second he will get the impression most people think "it's not worth the fight" and will just do what he says to make his life easier.

Who knows with this little battle won, and a taste of control over others he probably likes, he might even move on to local politics or POLICE WORK!!!

Now wouldn't that be fun? Instead of being in charge of your delivering your packages, he could be delivering your security, dont that make ya feel all warm and fuzzy inside? Nice guy like him?

It's always cheaper and easier not to fight. That is not the point.

Haha, he is spending the extra money on a P.O box for security. So some random punk off the street can't open his box and steal his mail. Or some Lone mailman can't 'accidentally' lose something. Instead his mail will be handled by a neutral party in the office that has nothing to do with him. All forms of society are sxxt. Whether it be government or private sector.

Just to show the other side of the bullion.

I love my mailman.

I regularly get ten 50 Lb priority flat rate boxes (500 Lbs total).

My guy backs his truck up my steep driveway, knows how to push the garage door opener, and puts the ten packages in the garage, and then leaves a note on the garage side door.

At my previous residence the post office would call me to ask if I wanted to pick them up or when should they bring them out to me...

So I've been lucky that I've not had an issue with getting or sending heavy packages.

Bummer that your mail guy is not so customer service oriented.

Ok what are you gonna do? Videotape him dropping a package? Unless he drops it from way up high he can just say it slipped. If it breaks up he can say that it got onto his truck like that. Whats the boss gonna say to the mailman? Be more careful and try not to drop the box or next time if its ripped just leave it here for him to pick up.

What else can you do? Go in and tell the postmaster that the mailman is being mean because he doesnt want to carry the packages?

Seriously no one is scared of the mailman. I certianly am not scared to stand up to one of them. Its a matter of KNOWING WHEN TO FIGHT YOUR BATTELES. It is simply not worth it to try to get something done, when most likely the boss is just gonna cover up for him. Now your gonna say "well go to the bosses boss". Do you really think the upper management is going to want to hear about a box being dropped?

Not only that but leaving a package on your porch or outside your door is also a secutiry risk! A small fee for a P.O box eliminates a lot of possible headaches!

If the mailman was a real jerk about it or you are pretty sure the dropped/damaged package was intentional, I would consider making a complaint now that you have made alternate delivery arrangements. They may have a file on him already, and they could switch him to a different route if there were further problems. If he was fairly reasonable about it I would be more likely to think the dropped package was an accident.

Well, I would do the same thing, however, there is only one problem with your suggestion. The young lad has already written a note of appreciation to the mailman, thanking him for his hard work and stating "not to expect as many heavy packages for a while."

Now, if there are any future complaints directed at this mailman, he has this note he can use as evidence of his exemplary customer service. Why he would never, NEVER do anything wrong. Would he? Could he? No way. And, look here! I've got a note to prove it.

He was given a letter of accomodation for his bad behavior!

He was rewarded for his bad behavior and he got the exact result he wanted. I am sure he had a great, big, belly laugh when he got that note.

It is always wrong to reward bad behavior.

He probably got wrote up, buy his jerk postmaster boss, in the past when someone's letter got stuck in the mail box and wasn't found for a month. And, was told that if it ever happens again he would be fired. By the looks of him he's probably just a year or two away from retirement and doesn't want to loose his pension.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.--Benjamin Franklin
