Well I ran 4 boxes today and on the second pass I looked at the rejects. One caught my eye that was looking rough. I bounced it and it sounded like a thud. So I put the magnet to it. It stuck.
So now I have a very rusted 1943 penny.
Anyone interested in a very rusty rustic 1943 penny.
It is a good conversation piece. Willing to take a loss and sell it for $19.95 plus a small S&H charge.
I only have one at this price so act fast.
I don't have a picture. So just imagine a pile of rust in the shape of a penny.

| If I'm not mistaken, the 43s are actually somewhat common. You can get them on feebay for about $10-15 for a roll. They are only rare in circulation because the magnets in the coin counting machines always catch them along with all the Canadian coins. Yours may have just skipped under the magnets because it's so heavily oxidized its magnetic surface has been reduced. Mostly just speculation, but it seems feasible. |

that sucker is badly rusted. like it has been in the ocean for a few years.
it amazes me how many people don't know they made a steel penny or even why they did. |

Already have several rolls of them. Most of mine are unrusted, though. Seems like they almost as hard to get in circulation as the mythical feathered Liberty. |

| Yeah, I've never found one in circulation. I've found an Indian Head, a Flying Eagle, and a 1909 VDB - but not a single steel 43. Pretty rare if I managed to find an Eagle first. |

Congrats on finding the steel penny.
I've decided that this hobby of searching through coin rolls is sort of like a "crap shoot". You never know how it will turn out.
I have yet to find an IH in the wild. I really don't believe that they exist.
However, I have found six steel pennies in just over ten months' of searching. And as far as finding good stuff in the nickels, dimes, etc. my results are far from what the norm on here seems to be...nothing really good, at all.
But, with each new roll I open to search I always have wonderful dreams of what I could find so that keeps me looking.
Enjoy. |

I got 50 to 60 in one bag last year. I lost count. The same bag had a total of over 600 wheats and was over 60% copper. My best bag yet. |
