Doesn't such an auspicious occasion mean you should have $ilver $tar$ for a while? I'm (unfortunately) a bit behind you on that 1K number for 40%'ers, but I'm trying my durndest to pass you by!
You really can't beat the price when you get them at face. ;) |

| FB101, 1k of 40% since when? How long did it take you to hit the 1k number? Thanks. |

We're in the midst of Summer rummage sale mania. Toss in the occasional estate sale that doesn't have an auctioneer, too. This is the greatest of opportunities to mine for treasures. Seems like everyone has/had saved nearly every half buck that crossed their palm.
At the rummage sales, those of us who scour the banks for 40% and 90% halves know what we're looking for. It just takes seconds. Even when counting them for confirmation of the amount it's possible to do a quick scan of dates. Generally, the rummage sale people are glad to get a reasonable amount for the piles of halves they have in their "collection." Best to just take them all and spend or bank the 1971s and other pass-through Kens. As much as I like to look through bags and rolls, this has become more lucrative for me.
Most who have halves, may also have silver dollars. Mine your city. Mine your neighborhood. Best to familiarize yourself with info how to spot real vs fake diamonds.
I always pay for my purchases with smaller bills such as ones, fives and tens. People like to see money counted out in from of them for them. A mere $75 in smaller bills has some heft as bills go (even though they remain a fiat currency). People smile and they park the wad of "cash" in their pocket. Perception becomes reality.
Have fun. It's a rewarding challenge that's far, far better than watching things like the Sunday morning specials on Michael Jackson's passing. |
Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply. |

FB101, thank you for your answer. I hit 600 40%'s about now, starting Jan 01, but I believe I may be doing a lot more coins than most; I am not sure how long I can maintain this crzy obcession.
KnowCommonCents, every estate sale I have visited tell me they give the coin jars to coin dealers. I haven't seen much in the way of coin sales at garage sales. Craig's List seems to be where most coin collections are sold. |
