just wondering if any1 else out there on the forum is a steel scraper . i scrap about 2-4 tons a month as i do commercial hvac and get in good with the labors to get them throw all the scrap steel in my truck. works out for me get my gas money for the month.
Hi, I am scrapping steel in Florida. I do around 700 lbs a week or more. Last month prices were around 7 dollars per 100 lbs. This week it is around 5 dollars. I drive around picking up old washers curbside, bycycles, I belive folding bed/couches would quailfy too depending on what recycler you use. I also do some commercial HVac.It's great to have extra monies around. The price of gas going up has affected my wallet. I am using a cavalier station wagon (4Cyl) and transfer it to my truck when I get home. I have a house garage but live in a nice neiborhood. I am trying to keep the junk to a low level not to make the place look to junky as the neighbors freak out. I don't have a neiborhood association or neighbor commando's. My scrapper is also now taking up to two tires on rims per load. Microwaves are good as they are heavy but they now want the capacitor out. Made $250 US last week with the by products like copper and aluminum. This is just part time too.
Depending on the day i get 110-160 a ton.Not to bad plus i've gotten to know the guys there and get them to use the magnet to grab the junk from my trailer. That sure helps the back.
