| Now, don't everybody go stealing my ideas ;) Just trying to flood the marketplace with ideas. Throw enough paint on the wall, something will eventually stick! Check back in a few day, will have about 500 coins up! |

| A quick glance through both their feedbacks, and Both have had buyers on the sealed unsearched boxes.... Are people too lazy to go to the bank, and would rather the post man delivery? |

Either that or they don't realize that banks will sell these boxes at face value. |

| I could sell 10 tons tomorrow and not be worried. Just looking for that serious buyer who wants to take a serious position in copper because they know the upside potential. I'm sure they are out there.... |

| Unfortunately it brings the "E-bay" market down. Too many pennies on the market brings prices down. I sell about a box a week on e-bay just to keep a name out there, but I'm afraid the demand will go down since there are so many out there to bid on. Good luck anyways. |
When my wife got after me it sounded like "Blah,Blah,Blah", but now it sounds like "Clink,Clink,Clink". Its amazing what that Ryedale can do for a hounded husband. |

| a lot of his items are going unsold or for selling for a low price. he's "biting the bullet" in exchange for getting the word out IMO. |

| At this point, e-bay is just a side channel of sales. My website and word of mouth brings in the most volume. Therefore, I can afford to "bite the bullet" as I actually get paid to market my product! As for bringing the market down, you are probably right in the short term, but creating a market will only do you good in the long run. Thanks for the support! |

Yeah, I just won $50 of Cu cents for 1.3 cents each, and that includes shipping! I hope this creates a larger market for copper. |

Either that or they don't realize that banks will sell these boxes at face value.
Many people have no idea that you can usually get coins from your bank at face value. I have spoken with a few friends about my enjoyment of searching through rolls of coins that I pick up at my bank and what interesting things I have found. They all wanted to know how much my bank charges me to get these rolls. So there obviously is the conception that banks charge you for this service.
Or, perhaps these are people that live far from a bank or don't have easy transportation to a bank on a regular basis and this is the easiest or even cheapest way of getting these coins to search for their hobby.
Until you have walked in the shoes of others, we should not assume that our lifestyle is exactly like those of others. I don't mean to sound preachy--just stating facts as they now are to me.
Five years ago my world as I had known it came to a screeching halt when I could no longer drive due to a vision problem. No public transportation in my area. No friends or family to regularly take me where I need to go. So I sit home day in and day out doing my hobbies inside my home and eagerly await my husband's days off from work and hope that in those precious few hours we can fit in all of the places I would like for him to drive me to and accomplish everything that needs to be done. If I were to have to call for a taxi to drive me to/from bank, there is absolutely no way that I could afford to do this hobby. So, there could be an endless number of reasons that a person might find these offers on eBay attractive.
I'll climb down off of my soapbox now.......
Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. |

PreservingThePast,
Just curious. With the vision problems are you able to see the dates? Heck the pennies dates are too small already.
Its good to hear that you have a great husband that supports you and cares for you and I hope he enjoys taking you out and about.
You are right...everything has a market. That is why E-bay is a good place to sell odd ball stuff. I sell junk on there for 10X what I would get for it at the flea markets. |

Slickeast...with the help of a lighted stand magnifier and one - three different powers of hand held magnifiers or loupes I can usually see the dates on pennies--dimes are the real killer for me. I have double vision so that makes looking at any coin interesting as they always look doubled to me so I may miss out on something interesting in that department. I have trouble distinguishing depths since I have little to no depth perception at times so trying to tell details about the letters, dates, etc is very difficult. Most times it looks indented to me rather than raised no matter what angle I hold it at. Lincoln is always a blob to me so no way I can tell if there are any errors related to him. Maybe someday I can afford a microscope to look through if my vision doesn't deteriorate any further to where I can no longer do this hobby.
Another strange situation with my vision is that if something is different or wrong it seems to jump out at me. So I have spotted a few polished die errors or varieties--not sure what correct term is--in the almost year that I have been searching. Of course, the wheat cents are no problem for me to tell and I love finding those. Quite often though to tell the mint mark I have to progress through the three different strengths of my hand held magnifiers to finally determine if it is a D or S.
It also takes me about an hour or more to hand search through four rolls of pennies. You have to understand that when I started doing this it was for a birthday coin project for my son's upcoming 25th birthday and this was all a labor of love. As I began looking through the coins I became more and more interested and have tried to learn as much as I can with my limited abilities, ie slow dial-up, problems reading or studying the pictures at times with my vision, etc. It has evolved into a real interest of mine now. So much so that last night my husband was able to drive me an hour away to my first coin club meeting. I really enjoyed being there and it would have been a lot more fun if only I could have really seen what was going on. I had to have one eye patched and could barely see out of the other eye last night. So I missed a lot of what was going on and had asked him to be observant for me but he was bored and played solitaire instead. But at least he drove me there.
My vision also leads me to my difficulties reading/posting on here as well as the slow dial-up frustrating me. At times I can see fairly well enough to read the posts but other times the lines all run together and I can't seem to make sense of them. Thank goodness I remember my touch typing skills from high school or I really would be up the creek without a paddle.
I appreciate the positive comments coming from members of this forum that support others when they post about finding something really cool or valuable, etc. It is a refreshing change in today's ugly world.
So...Continued success, everyone.
Enjoy! |
