I really don't hoard copper pennies (yet) but I have a huge hoard of nickels. I have a friend on another fourm who has invented a sorting machine for pennies. He is thinking of selling video of how to make your own.

Pennies and nickels are the way to go in my opinion. I'm into 90% silver coins too but I'm not buying silver now. Why should I when there is copper in them there hills?

I search because after working in prisons for 27 years it calms me down. Those pennies don't talk back, and don't carry weapons. Alot safer believe me.

Would copper pennies really be worth much in the event of an economic depression? Part of what keeps copper over $3 is that industry needs it for infrastructure purposes (especially in growing parts of the world, like China) and that might not be the case in a depression.

Of course, if an economic depression triggered a large war I suppose the value of copper would sky rocket.

Tell me another investment that instantly increases in value by over 100% as soon as it comes into your hands. Gresham's law is irrefutable.

I do it for 1 and 3. In this electronic age copper will go up and through out the history of currency all has experienced inflation. I don't hold much stock in WTSHTF because if this indeed comes to pass people are going to want stuff they can use. Not many people will be melting down pennies. In such a case both copper and the value of currency will decrease.

Exactly. And if a hyperinflationary depression hits, who's going to want FRNs?
