Fellow copper lovers- I love to hand sort, but i'd like to pick up the pace. I am offering a deal that will help you and me out. I got this idea from barrytrot's 'free ryedale' topic. It's basically the same.
You buy me a Ryedale Apprentice ($500). I pay you back in copper cents within 6 months.
-I will pay back at 1.15x face. -I send you $434.78 face value in copper cents.
-24 weeks / $434.78 is $18.12 per week. no problem...
-Every $75 face copper I accumulate I send it to you.
-$75 face copper shipped AT LEAST once a month. Most likely faster.
YOU get- $434.78 Face copper cents for $500. Killer Deal!
I have no problems picking up boxes at my pickup banks, and my mother in law is a vice president at a local bank here, so no problems dumping.
How can you trust me? -I will give you my name, address and telephone number. -I will write and sign a contract, and mail it to you. -I am an Eagle Scout -What comes around, goes around. I dont cheat people. -I can PM you my ebay user ID i have 117 positive feedback, at 100%.
Thank you barrytrot for the idea!
Anyone Interested, please PM me and we can work something out.
Thanks for reading!

This reasoning baffles me. Someone chimes in on every post on realcent and runs their post count up to 1000.....OH! They must be a perfectly trustworthy person...
I check the forum everyday and probably have ready every active post on here. I am just not one to hit the reply button at every last chance. It's a shame that is how members are judged. |

| Well, ingreenlight has only been a member for around 60 days. You get a level of trust after seeing someone on the board and getting to know them. Everyone knows that a member with 1000 posts can rip you offer just a much, or possibly even more than someone with say, 20 posts. I think I speak for everyone when I say we welcome all new members, and that we all started out new (Heck, even HCBT had 20 posts at a time). |

I am NOT judging anyone on here. I simply am saying I dont know enough about a member to loan them $500! Same senario: A random person walks up to you on the street and asked you to loan them $500. Would you do it? I think not! Are you judging them by saying no? No, because its common sense to not loan someone $500 without knowing anything about them.
Just because a person has XXXX number of posts does NOT mean they are trustworthy! It shows a little "comitment" to the site. Not just some random person that happend to find this site. Also you can usually get a pretty good idea on the kind of person someone is by how they reply to certain topics and how they word things.
There are even a few people on here with under 50 posts that I would do business with all day long! Why? Because they have showed they are trustworthy through their transactions and other ways.
We all start at zero posts. Its how you go from there that matters.

Point taken and I appreciate the positive discussion. I love our hobby and the people we have here on the realcent. I guess at the point I am at just starting a few months ago, I try and read all the threads I can and gather as much info as possible with the limited time I have to browse the web. Most of the time I don't feel like I can add anything of substance to a thread and move on. Would I like to post more often and get acquainted with the members? Of course, and I hope to do so!
I completely understand your viewpoint and agree with your example 100%. I would do the same if I was an established member here too. I just find it annoying to need to establish myself once again as an honest trader. For that reason, I have pretty much stuck to ebay for any dealings.
I also apologize for hijacking the thread. If I had the time and means to do so, I would love to take you up on your offer. However, I like to hand sort when it is convenient so I can feel like the hoard was made with my bare hands. I enjoy hunting for wheats and other variances. I guess I think running a ryedale would be more of a chore and sidejob rather than a hobby IMO. However, it is a wonderful machine from what I have heard and wish you luck getting one! |

JACER - Wouldn't hurt to post your ebay ID. We had a thread some time ago doing that. |

Very excellent discussion about trust we have going on here. I agree with most of what is being said. I also read almost every active topic on this board, but rarely reply. Thank you all for the kind words.

| I'll throw this idea out there....since the OP is a newer member and some veterans are leary (understandable), maybe the OP can offer to send the first "payment" in advance to whoever does this? I think the potential seller would appreciate this and not feel like the risk is all on them. Since it sounds like the OP has been hand sorting some already, I would imagine he has a bit of a hoard, and that some of it can be parted with? Just trying to help out both the OP and the seller... :) |

Coin makes a good point. On other forums and in other trading hobbies I have been involved in, this has been the procedure to get newer members established. I think it is a fair process and would make it easier on both parties.
My ebay name is my realcent name....I hold over 750 feedbacks and all are positive 100%. I haven't thought of moving or buying and copper here, as I would rather sort a few more boxes and get my coppers at a penny each. My goal is to acquire a ton of copper. |

Occasionally I'll do small deals with new members just to start them with a trackrecord here.
Average people in the US love debt and unfortionately many do not care if they pay it back. Yes they might think they care, but they don't actually have concrete plans to repay.
Savers/cash hoarders/PM collectors often have the personal disciple to make sure they meet all their obligations.
For the OP. Welcome! Many of us paid for our Ryedale by sorting and selling copper off at a small profit to raise the money. In my case I paid for it fully with trading profits.
Other suggestions: 1. borrow the $500 from a friend or family. 2. Have a garage sale - or do it virtually on craigslist - to sell off some other useless assets that don't help you save hard assets (baseball cards, junk in the garage, electronics, etc). 3. consider selling some silver (maybe you coinroll hunted?) 4. Start saving for the Ryedale - if you can save up for it you will likely end up using it a lot. |

As a hand sorter also I see nothing wrong for not working my heart out for my Ryedale, but if you did everything you could to save up for one you might have a nice feeling of accomplishment. Just having someone give you one might not do this for everyone. As an EAGLE SCOUT you should have the essential mental tools to do this by yourself. But if you are just looking for a free ride then that is ok also. Yes I did try to get the one from barrytrot. Like I said it is all about how you feel on it that matters, I'm throwing in my 2 cents. |
