hello i am new to this site but not to coin collecting. I have read alot of the posts on here and had to join. I am married with one 2 1/2 year old & live in indiana. I just got into collecting pennies here in the last year. Before pennies i collected silver..silver and more silver... and still do. I hand sort and love every minute of it. At this time i really dont want a penny sorter because i could miss out on looking for die errors and other random coins. I hear about people who found IHP, 1909's and others..but i havent heard of anyone findiing a proof. I found a 1998 S proof penny in a 25 dollar brinks box and was wondering if this was a common thing?

Welcome its always great to have new people join. I don't think its too common to find proof pennies. In half dollars its not way to uncommon but in pennies I have only found one proof after about 20 boxes sorted. |

Welcome to the club. I have one proof penny I have found hand sorting, and about half a dozen proof nickels and about 30 proof halves. Proof pennies are not common. Several die errors in pennies though. |

Welcome. Proof are not too common of finds. Keep up the search!

| Welcome to the club. These ladies and gentlemen are great people. I have never found a wild injun or a wild proof. I'd give up all the stuff I've found to find my first indian cent. That's a rare group to be in here, and even more exclusive is the 1 ton club. That will take a while since I too hand sort. |

| Welcome, and enjoy. I hate that I haven't found a proof. I've found more steel pennies, Indian Heads, foreign silver coins, plastic pennies, goop, dimes, nickels, Canadians and metal slugs than I have proofs. I'm going to start a "Proof Pennies Don't Exist in the Wild" club. |

| I have found one proof penny and one proof nickel in the wild, since that is less than indian heads or buffalo nickels that I have found, they seem to be pretty rare. |

| I have only found 1 IHP and the proof. Besides that all i find is wheats, canadian, and S mints. Where does everyone find halves to sort? Do you ever find 90 or 40%? |

Welcome friend. Don't live anywhere close to you but this forum brings us all into the same room in a jiffy. Cheers |
The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities. |

Hi there-
Never found a proof, but several AU cents. Also found 3 IH's to date, a 1909 VDB, and a 1933 Canadian. Went through a LOT of boxes to get them.
Not doing silver roll hunting as much- a little too much work for too little reward. Focusing more on pennies. Finding one 2009 penny box will net as much or more than 3 months of silver roll hunting. Ties up less money too. JMO.

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

Welcome!
I've never found a proof cent (then again, I don't really know what to look for, other than the shiny ones). I found a few proof halves though. |
As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

When I give my two cents, they're always copper! |
