All this talk about hand sorting made me think, hmm maybe someone should start giving out Ryedale scholarships.
I'm always game for a crazy idea especially my own, so here is my scholarship offer:
- Must be a forum member in very good standing.
- I will pay for one Ryedale of your choice.
- You pay me back in copper for 1.15x face. I.e. if the Ryedale cost $500, you would owe me $434.78 in face value copper. (btw: I came up with this number by figuring what price would allow the new Ryedale owner to give the pennies at no loss on face value. This should be a couple cents over face + shipping. So the "scholarship" winner is never forced to go out of pocket.)
- Pay back within 6 months or less.
So, my "loan" nets me a .2 to .3 face value gain and the person getting the loan gets to starting tripling their copper gain speed.
First "good standing" member to take me up on this gets the deal.
great idea Barry. maybe there are some members who dont have the cash up front but could afford to pay over time. Credit is the American way after all.
"99% of all lawyers give the rest of them a bad name"
But in reality....Barry only realy wants his payment returned in the form of copper.....so why should he care...he is buying at 1.15X Face if payment in copper only.
I'm currently swimming in Ryedales....so I'm not interested.
I like the idea....one of you hand sorters should be all over it.....
Send Barry a payment every 65 lbs of copper you pile up....65 x $1.50 = about $100FV....so you could really do it in just 4 boxes shipped.....anybody really interested should knock this out in a few months....
Bottom line....you get a 15% discount on your Ryedale....for a trade in sorting efforts....

Wow, that really is a crazy and generous offer. lol I have been hand sorting copper cents for a few months. Previous to that I use to only sort and keep the wheats. I don't have the funds currently to take you up on your offer but whoever does should be very thankful.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams
I am new to this hobby...1 year this June. I have been hand sorting and love it but my eyes pay the price. I wish I could qualify for this opportunity. Sounds like a great idea.

Maybe you have the copper pennies on hand already?

Has any one taken you up on this offer? If not I will. I am a hand sorter now and have been trying to scrape together the $500 needed to buy an apprentice.
