I've seen a few 1995 kennedy half dollars with a raised metal spot between the 19*95. Is this common? What would cause something like this? A die malfunction?

It does not appear to be something post mint, as there's no impression on the reverse. Just a raised circular punch in the middle of the date.

If no one knows what I'm talking about, I'll try and post a pic later.

Looks like a piece of solder or something along those lines.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

The thing is, I have a few with the exact same thing in the exact same spot.

It's definately not solder. It's actually metal protruding from the coin.

After seeing a couple more of these, I now know what it is. I think someone was practicing their metal work or soemthing, so they would drill a hole into the coin, and insert a metal plug.

Just another one of those weird things people do to coins.
