I put in a bid for these quarters, but fortunately I was able to retract it. I was looking for a way to warn the current high bidder, but unfortunately there is no way to contact them. Anyway, here is the link:

Perhaps we might see more of these as PMs become more popular. Has anyone seen any other misleading listings?

I don't understand why it is misleading...

EDIT: Ah, I see it now. I had to go read through the guy's feedback. What an idiot. And of course, he makes the starting bid $95, to make it look like a typical roll of silver coins.

It's a bit misleading. First of all this lot is in the Washington quarter 1932-1998 category. The seller does not specify that any of 41 quarters are 90% silver, except for the additional Standing Liberty quarter. The photo, while not entirely clear, seems to show clad coins. The seller states the he is not a coin collector. Further, the buyer will be on the hook if he assumes that all the coins are silver, which they may not be, since the seller has stated that these coins are legal tender and nothing else.

What I do when I have interest in a lot AND the seller states that he is a "non-collector", is ask the seller to look at the dates on the coins and tell me how many coins are 1964 and before. Then, I can make a bid or not, knowing how many coins are silver.

Sometimes, if it appears to be an honest mistake by the seller who has no expertise in coins, I alert the seller (which you can do) that his description of the lot is misleading. The seller can cancel all bids and end the auction for reason of it being not described correctly thereby misleading bidders.

apparently he offers 40 none silver quarters and 1 silver liberty quarter. with POS feedback like that, it's a wonder he is still allowed to sell.

Trolling is an art.

Agree with oober. He knows exactly what he is doing, and is covering all the bases in case of a Paypal claim. The buyers need to be smarter and read the whole description.

I sell on EBay and make my listings in a way that it should answer any potential question that comes up. One that does all the time is if I ship internationally (I dont). It's listed in the description 3 times that I do not ship outside of the US yet I get requests from overseas buyers constantly asking how much to ship to country x.

People need to step back, and take the time to read and comprehend the whole description, plain and simple. I'm not even sure that the seller deserved the negative feedback he received since his description seems to match what he is sending. Oh well...

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

I snipped some points that are not relevent to us:

Members are not permitted to engage in any activity for the purpose of inappropriately gaining attention or diverting members to a listing. This includes any activity that harms the shopping experience by making it difficult for buyers to find the items they are looking for. Ultimately, it is the seller's responsibility to ensure that each listing accurately reflects the item being sold, while not using any unfair methods to divert members to their listing. This includes, but is not limited to, a listing's title, subtitle, item specifics, description, pictures, links, and meta tags.

Activities that are not permitted include:

Creating a listing title or subtitle that does not accurately describe the item for sale, or that includes information that could mislead buyers as to what is actually for sale.

Any other activity that eBay deems as inappropriately diverting members to a listing or harming the finding experience for buyers.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

Listing cancellation

Limits on account privileges

Account suspension

Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

Loss of PowerSeller status

Actually, I reported two of his auctions. Even though I didn't lose any money, I hate to see people get away with scams like this.

Two of the guys he ripped off actually gave him positive feedback. There is no question about it. He did it on purpose.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of it's victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busy-bodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. I got ripped off by a seller a while back. It was for a lot of canadian quarters. They were listed as early 60's to the present. I payed little enough for them that if there was only one silver quarter from the early 60's than I would make out. Turns out that there was nothing from the early 60's and a lot from 1969. They were doing the same thing on canadian nickles as well.

could be the first couple auctions were "real" auctions. Once he got the pos. feedback from those, that's when he did his little scam.
