I have an 1858 Flying Eagle Cent with a "problem". I've included a pic. On the front side,...beside the top wing is a marking which appears to be a "D". I don't know if this is an error or whether it was added after the coin was made. Does anybody here have a clue? Thanks. Please, see photo.

Best Regards,
davidrmj

Definitely post mint damage. I see coins all the time from all eras where people inscribe initials.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.
