Welcome. What did you melt for the ingot? I like the wavy side.

Nice! How about some details on your melting setup? What did you use for a mold? |

Its all scrap from old tvs and cpu monitors nobody wants, old radios, ele motors, you name it.
No pennies, I spend them. I used a fireclay curcilbe, and poured into a graphite ingot mold. Used good old coal for the heat source. Took alot of hard & very hot work, but I think was worth it.

Add air from a fan and should get hot enough if semi enclosed.

Run a google search for "brake drum forge". You can use coal if you know how to tend a coal fire, let it coke up, and keep your vent clear of clinkers.
Or use natural lump charcoal like I use in my lively style forge. I can burn steel in mine, and copper melts well. I just don't have a good crucible or mold.
A lawn blower is probably too much air for your fire. You can reach a point where you cool the fire and use fuel more rapidly. At least for forging steel, too much air in your fire can cause oxidation problems, as you should try to keep a reducing atmosphere.
GREAT POUR for a first time attempt!! Did you use a flux? If so what kind?
*EDIT: With the temp's you are hitting, you are right, intense fire. Welding glasses help from going blind if you like to watch the fire closely like me |
