Can anyone suggest a source for those large, heavy duty plastic coin bags that seal shut? Thanks

| I buy them from office max for work. I'm sure there are cheaper sources. I'd ask pennybullion where he gets his. I know he uses a lot of them. |

I get them free from the bank. It never hurts to ask. I use a lot of them also. If you have to buy them, you can get them from banking supply companies like You must be logged in to see this link. Make sure you order the right size and thickness. Also, remember to factor in shipping when calculating cost. I think they run about 50 cents each in bulk. |

| I get mine from banksupplies.com. The few times I've ordered from them, their shipping estimate has been more than what it turned out to be. |

I think I have ordered from banksupplies.com also. They seem to be pretty reasonable on most things. |

Thanks for the link to banksupplies.com
I think I found what I want but you have to order them by the case of 100. They hold 50 lbs each and have a handle. I need like 10 of them for my 1/4 ton.

Sorry, I use them to return coin to the bank. So, I order multiple cases lol.
I've found that they arent the best thing to use for storage. The glue on the seal doesn't last more than maybe 6 months or a year. At first I used them to store my hoard, but the seal started to degrade and I found I had some pennies laying on the floor instead of in the bag. They are made for transport, not long term storage.
What you can use though are ziplock freezer bags. The ones that are double layered and have a double seal. The quart size hold 20 dollars, I think or maybe it's only 10. Either way they wont break and they hold the pennies perfect. |

| I have one of those Foodsaver machines that seal the plastic with heat. I'm wondering if it would work to seal these heavy duty coin bags as well? What do you think? |

No, you want the whole case. Your problem is not that the 100 bag case is too big, its that your 1/4 ton hoard is too small still. LOL!
I was just storing loose in rubbermaid bins but then I did not have any count of how many coins I had and the bins are really heavy! I'm switching over to large size Ziplock double zipper freezer bags. I put in 2500 pennies per bag, label with a marker the count and type of coin and then store in bins. 2500 pennies makes the bag look half full standing up, but when you lay it down it looks better.
You need to be careful handling these bags as $25 in pennies is a lot of weight, but they are pretty sturdy and stay closed reasonably well. The other advantage is that they are reusable, unlike the single use bank bags. I've been able to nest a full bag back into a penny box for shipping purposes. |

Go old school and use the canvas bank bags. You only need 15 of them for a quarter ton. You can get them free from some banks or you can buy brand new ones for $1.10 each from the bank supply place.
I agree with jadedragon.. the problem is not too many bags, it's not enough pennies. |

| Ok, I get the hint. I'm going to start "collecting" pennies again. 1000 pound goal. I was watching the business channel and they say we are going to have a $15 Trillion dollar deficit by 2011. Thats $15,000,000,000,000! Coin metal change is coming soon. I can't beleive it hasn't happened already. |
