Can anyone give me tips on how to re-roll the zinc pennies faster?
My favorite part is looking through the pennies. However, I dread re-rolling the zincs for the bank.
I was thinking about buying one of those FAST WRAP devices to help speed things up.

| get a used counting machine on ebay for about $200. Use it to count out $50 and dump in bags instead of re-rolling. |
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X

| Are you wrapping them to cash in at the bank? If so it might be easier to find a bank with a coinstar like machine in the lobby that does not cost anything. Also, most banks do not take wrapped rolls anymore because there is no telling what is in the roll (just what ive noticed). I have a small coin sorter bank type deal for daily change that sorts into preformed rolls and as soon as 50 pennies are in the rolls is just begins to overflow so as long as you have the preformed rolls its much easier/faster. Hope this helps! |

| Find a bank that has a self serve coin counter in the lobby. Or a bank that will count a couple bags for you once a week. None of the banks I deal with will take rolled coins. Not even my machine rolled rolls. They prefer them in bags. If I bring in rolled coins I have to stand there while they break them all open and run them through their counter because they don't trust me that I have 50 pennies per roll or that they even are pennies. I spent a lot of money on a counter so I could count out 5000 pennies in a bag and seal it so it would be less work for them and they still won't accept that either they still have to break open the seal and run them through their counter and they come up with 5000 on their machine too. So now I just weigh them because it does not matter if I have exactly 5000 pennies in a bag. |

yeah, you have to do your legwork first.
you need a place that will accept dumps in $50 bags. if they'll supply the bags, even better. a $30 cart is useful too.
then you need a supply of coins. if you find a place with a coin counter, i view that as a source of copper rather than a place to dump. dumping in those machines is slow and you often get undercounted. on the other hand, buying those full bags is great because you don't ahve to unwrap the rolls, and the bags often have a few dimes in them. only problem is they don't stack so well. |

Oh Ive been doing this for a while. I have 2 different branches that order me $50 worth of pennies. Its strange I often find dimes in the rolls that are rolled in plastic from the bank.
None of my banks accept the bags and they dont have machines. So, I am pretty much left with hand rolling them. |

An automatic rolling machine would be perfect for this. Unfortunately, they are horribly expensive. I got my first one early in the game when I realized what a chore all that rerolling was going to be.
You could also reroll the coins in the wrappers and verify the weight.. so you wouldn't even have to count. All zinc rolls should be about 126 grams. A box of solid zinc rolls should come in about 14.1 pounds.
BofA in your area might take precounted bags. Check out all the local Credit Unions to see if they might have lobby counters. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

| I have to roll all my coin in Canada. I use a CS-10 with the coin tubes. Just fire the coins into shotgun rolls - usually reuse the ones I just opened. I also bought a box of 2000 empty shells, but have not needed it yet as I get enough reusable shotgun rolls to cover all my returns. I store the copper bulk. |

Faster, no. Easier, perhaps. I only hand search and must reroll as that is the only way my bank and/or credit union would accept the coins. I work in four roll groups, if pennies or dimes, and five roll groups if nickels. Basically 200 coins per group. That was a personal preference to help me out with the birth year coin project I began in the summer of 2008. Anyway, I only unroll and search one roll at a time. I then reroll that particular roll having replaced each coin I took out at the time I took it out. I have to use a small pill bottle to place the paper wrapper into as my fingers are not large enough to hold the coins and wrapper steady, plus my arthritis makes it difficult to grip it too tightly--I rarely get any in the shotgun shell style wrappers anymore and don't wish to spend my money buying these. I then use a capped pen to gently push the coins to the bottom and straighten them out inside the roll. I have to do that periodically as I am carefully counting the coins going back into the roll. I hate getting rolls that are shorted and I try my best to make certain each roll is accurate when I return it to my bank. After logging by hand in my notebook details about what I found, etc, I then move on to the next roll. That way you never have a large pile of coins staring you in the face and making it seem more of a chore than a fun hobby.
Most of us to this hobby have our own little habits or quirks about the way we like to do things. Just find something that is comfortable for you and makes it enjoyable.
