I am new to this forum; however, I have been metal recycling for a while. I turn in cheap brass or electrical cords I pick up at yardsales.

My neighbors are pretty lazy about just throwing out perfectly good items out in our alley for trash pick-up.

In the last 2 weeks, I have found a knee high metal filing cabinet, a big gas barbeque grill, and shower doors.

I assume the metal on the shower doors is aluminum so I could scrap those.

Is this metal for the filing cabinet, grill, and fridge worth taking to get scrapped?

Also, I have an old standing basketball stand and hoop; is that something I could take to get scrapped (its not in very good shape)?

Thanks

Oh sorry, I noticed my listing had something about a fridge in it. Someone gave me an old camper fridge that doesn't work. I would assume that I would be able to take that to scrap.

Hopefully, someone will respond. The guys at the scrap yard I go to aren't the most pleasant people to talk to but I guess I could ask them.

youd have to have the refrigerant out of the fridge for them to accept it I think. rest of it sounds scrappable if its cleaned of plastics/non metals. Maybe even as short steel.

Break down everything that you can and you will make more money. Remove the brass fittings from the grill and the aluminum top and bottom of the grill. Steel, Aluminum and Brass from one grill!

how much do you get for electric cords that are coated with plastic?

are there any online scrapping resources for information? for example, i have an electric fan - does it have a capacitor that I need to worry about?

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

I wouldn't think so. If it does, just discharge it with a screwdriver that isn't you favorite one. As long as it is insulated.... I new guy at work touched one off an A/C once. I thought he was gunna tear up, he is a wuss though.

BBq gass grills most are cast aluminum paying 35 cents a lb here. I snatch open the lid real fast and break it off the hinge. Then I take it home to the work bench and take out the steel parts and put them in the steel pile. Usually they have a wood handle too held on by wing nuts. a sawzall comes in handy here some times. You can break up the bottom cast sometimes with a heavy hammer.

scrappin" all over

Magnet. Always carry a small magnet with you at garage sales or when trash picking.

Last year, stainless steel was selling for a very high price. It might be worth starting a collection of stainless if you have the room to store it. When prices rise, cash it in. Old sinks, industrial kitchen counters, beer kegs, flatwear etc.

If it's metal it'll scrap! Some just pays more than others.

Are you throwing that out?
