Not too bad of a list. I could do without the 7.62....

9mm is probably the single most common pistol caliber, followed by .45. .40 is much less common than either.
I don't see much point in buying a calibre that you can't shoot. |
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X

I can always buy a gun. Or build a zip gun. Bullets to fire might be another thing.
And just like today we have people who will pay outrageous premiums on our units of PM's because they feel this is better than that, in different scenarios people will be willing to pay tremendous premiums for ammo. I also think there particular brands and types will fetch better than others, HPvsBall etc.
I have been told that Winchester is out of business. That means at some point, well preserved winchester ammo will be a collector item, as all guns made by them will be, regardless if TSHTF or not.
Guns and bullets, neither get cheaper it seems. |

| on topic, sort of. I think that for all Obama's faults. Change you can believe in!, is his good point. And it is the grammar. Besides, what your grammar teacher told you. It doesn't mean the same thing as you can believe in change. I think that this article should read, ammo calibers to keep your hands on!!! It's no wonder most people are semi illiterate. All the emotion was thrown out! English speakers should not obey rules made for a different language. |

I guess I have too much of some according to them, hehe. Of course there isn't a I-must-shoot-all-the-time-syndrome section....

I've seen some guys on GoldisMoney say that for handguns you should have 1000 rounds per mag. That seems a bit extreme to me. I have 4 mags for my 40 S&W, and just a touch over 1000 rounds. I don't see the need to get anymore right now.
For my .357 Magnum, I have roughly 750 rounds in a mix between 38 special and 357 mag (depends on what is available at the time). I might try to get that up to 1000 as well, but that's not high priority right now.
I have picked up some 7.62x39, maybe 2 20-round boxes. This caliber is extremely hard to find locally, and at one time I had thought about getting an AK-47 or equivalent. I also have picked up 3 100-round boxes of 9x19 9mm luger. This caliber too is impossible to find here. I originally bought this for another member here who was going to visit, but other things came up and the visit didnt happen. This Saturday I am going to a gun show and maybe gun auction, so I might find a 9mm to go with the ammo. If not, it will be no problem to sell it. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

I mention calibers I think are good in the barter goods thread I started.
9mm Luger, .45 ACP, .40 S&W, .38 SP, .380
.22LR, .223/5.56x45, 30-30, .30-06, .308/7.62x51, 7.62x39, 7mm Mag, .270
other military surplus rounds that are less common, but will be in demand: 6.5mm Swiss, 8mm Mauser, 7.5mm French, .303 Enfield, 7.62x54 Russian, .50 caliber |

These guys are mission oriented. That seems to include a SHTF scenario and predicting or accuratly guessing how long and what is going to occur.
I ain't a psychic. I don't know whats coming or for how long. I learned a long time ago my "prefrences" and "plans" mean squat to fate.
If ammo is your thing buy everything you can afford at a decent price for long term storage. Supply isnt meeting demand, new regulations everyday, folks, it is being used up, banned and obsoleted every chance they get.
The fundamentals for the product are strong. Buy it all, buy what you like first, then buy the deals or "dips" you come accross. It doesnt get cheaper very often. |

Ideally you should keep a decent amount of ammunition for all weapons you own to give you a leg up when SHTF.
When buying firearms I think people should take into consideration what is going to be laying around if SHTF. I would recommend buying common caliber firearms. .223 & .308 are big ones because our military will be leaving this all around. Other then that I would say 12ga, .38 special, .22, 9mm

A good list, I would definitely add .357 mag to the handgun list, possibly .44 mag too.
I'm not so sure about the 7.5 French. I would think 7mm Mauser instead.
I would add the 12 gauge for sure.
