I think the seller here slabbed the pennies with their own slab ID. Does it add any value or is it a clever way to sell an otherwise raw coin? I posted a while back about how I thought putting coins in 2x2 flips would boost selling price because "packaging" sort of conveys some value as if the coin must be worthy of being in a protective case. By the way, what a racket with the 2009 pennies. Why are they so hard to come by? Is everyone scooping them up like pet rocks or something?

I seen my first 2009 in the wild yesterday. It was so beat up that I put it right back into the wild to find the next person.
Those slab'ers are often referred to as SSS (Shameless Self Slabbers). It only adds value to the buyers who dont know what they are doing. Buy the coin, not the holder. |

| If you go to Google and type in Coin Grading services you would be amazed at how many there are. From what I've heard some are just a guy in his basement using purchased plastic slabs. Of course this doesn't make them bad since every buisness at one time was small. |

The slab reads MS66 RED
I thought red was a toning that copper acquired over a long time without being handled. |

For numismatics, there are 3 categories: red, red-brown and brown. Red refers to a coin retaining at least 90-95% of it's original color from the mint. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

| It seems to work for the large dealers. People will buy anything if it comes in a bright plastic package. The reason pennies are so hard to comeby is that they are always hard to find this time of year. |
