Just happened to look into the Zinc pile which I rarely do and happen to see the "ears".Grabbed it and thought that's odd a late 50's wheat in the zincs.Grabbed it out and looked at the date and seen the 09 Was like no way then flipped it over and seen the little letters and was like WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW .Immediately flipped back over and looked for the S but no luck there. Is easily a Strong XF and possibly an AU. Just wanted to share quick with the "family" Derek P.S. Dealy Got another one for ya

As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

I've sorted roughly $1000 with my ryedale so far. I do an initial zinc sort & manually sift through them and put them in the reject pile. Never found a wheat in the pile (yet).
I do a second copper accept sort, and I've found 1-2 191X, some 192X, some 193X, and a lot of 194X in the copper reject pile. The 1943 steels get kicked to the copper rejects as well. |

I'm slowly trying to get caught up in my reading/posting as the computer/slow dial-up allows. I've switched from dark chocolate to very chewy candy now to chew up my frustrations.

You Ryedale guys have to quit dumping the "diamonds" with the trash...I'm sure it's been covered here in the past:
1) Zinc Standard...crank up the sensitivity......this will pull all the for sure zincs that can go back to the bank right away.
2) The Coppers and other stuff....including some zincs will be what get re-run....
3) Now go to a Copper Standard.....leave the sensitivity up if you like......this will pull all the copers and the common whents......put these in the hoard storage....
4) Now you will be down to the old wheats, foreign, some zincs.....I sometimes go back to the zinc standard and decrease the sensitivity and keep a close eye on the zinc output for old wheats.....
In the end...you may have to hand sort what is left.
You see - the old wheats are like taint....they are not copper and they are not zinc.....they are copper with a lot of tin...that is why the copper keep rejects them with the zincs.....that tin makes them bronze....not brass.....
Copper + Zinc = Brass. Copper + Zinc + Tin = Bronze....the tin makes all the difference...and the Rydale is that sensitive.....it see the old wheats on a copper keep and sayn....this is not a copper...and rejects it right along with the zincs.....
For me - this is the reward - the exciting bonus of finding some numis pennies.....I've found a crap load of indians and 4 1909 VDB this way .....I;ve forund 2 1959 Cupronickle indians and 2 1909 indians....these would have all been rejected with the zincs on a single copper keep pass.

Thanks to your wisdom:
I use a zinc accept, right before I process a batch, I just run an IHP & early wheat penny through the machine to make sure they get rejected. I set the sensitivity of the ryedale to reject these. It probably means more zincs than normal get rejected as well, but this is a decent way to safeguard against missing old coppers. I've done full sifting of my first $1000 or so of zincs and have never found coppers of any type.
Then I do a copper accept on the same setting. |

Welcome to the club.
I use a copper accept and double sort for accuracy.
First sort, I eyeball the zinc reject pile. Old wheats and IHC's stick out like a sore thumb. Canadians sound different so can't miss them no matter where they fall. (Wish the old wheats sounded like that). Odds of missing an old wheat or IHC are extremely low.
Second sort, I eyeball the copper accept pile for wheats. I'm sure I miss a few common date wheats. but I trade that off for the time I saved in order to run more bags through the machine.
To date, I've found 2 1909 VDB's (no S though). One was solid XF and the other was borderline VF-XF. Filled a hole in the book that I thought would never be filled. Never thought I would get past 50% occupancy in my 1909-1940 Lincoln Book, but with the Ryedale, I blew past that in no time. Sadly, the vast majority of pre1940 cents that I find are philly. Everytime I find one with a mintmark, I hold my breath hoping to fill a whole (or at least upgrade).
Once again, congrats. |
