Hi all. Great forum, nice to see I'm not the only one who can't pass up a lamp cord or busted appliance in the trash. Anyway, here's my question. I was given a broken Cuisinart food processor at work, started to tear it down and found a couple of sizable motor start and stop capacitors. I don't know much about caps except that they can shock the snot out of me. Is it safe to just clip the wires and toss them or will I get zapped? Any help would be much appreciated.
Insulated screwdriver across the terminals to discharge.
The silver [is] mine, and the gold [is] mine, saith the LORD of hosts. Hag 2:8 [/b] He created it. He controls it. He gave it to us for His use. Why did we turn from sound scriptural currency that PROTECTS us?

Correct. A new guy at work learned the hard way. Scared the crap out of him....
Deal
Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams
Should I expect any sparkage and popping? By insulated I'm assuming you mean plastic/rubber handle? Thanks again.
The bigger the Capacitor and the more recent the charge, the bigger the spark. Don't discharge them in a room filed with gas fumes! Use a plastic/rubber handle on your tool. Use rubber gloves and stand on a rubber mat while wearing gum boots if you are really worried.
